Gassy ebf baby....help!

I have a 6 month old dd who is extremely gassy I've noticed that this is worse now than when she was born. She wriggles and squirms so much that even a 10 minute car journey can be agony because a burp may be stuck. I burp her constantly during a feed but that never seems to be enough. Even after she has finished feeding I have to burp her again. And again. And again. Sometimes, mostly in evening during her bedtime routine i have to spend up to 40 minutes burping her. Her burps can b so loud that she can put dh to shame!

I've tried infacol and gripe water. Both to no avail.

I'm going to the clinic next week to get dd weighed but wanted some opinions based on real life experiences and advice as to what may be causing this. As dd is bigger now and heavier its getting harder to carry her and burp her.

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Has she been checked for tongue tie wild?

TheWildThornsberrys · 12/06/2013 23:46

Jilted. I'm amazed. I never thought dd had a tongue tie. Never even contemplated it. Yet just reading the attached I feel that this may possibly be the source of our troubles. DD has a small dip - heart shaped tip tongue which I suspected was a tongue tie but having had a look around under her tongue all looked nomal so i assumed it wasnt. But reading the attached some of it resonates with the early latching problems we had and is spot on in relation to DD being gassy, squirmish and breaking for air! Even the HVs that helped in the early days with all my bf woes didn't spot it. I really think this may be the issue.

But now I'm scared thinking about all th issues that come with a tongue tie. Getting the snip, or not? Speech problems?

Suppose i should first get DD checked by GP?

Thank you so much.

Yes you could get it checked by GP but lots of HCP have little training in bfing issues and easily miss tt. Maybe talking to a BFC first might help? Is there a Bfing Support Group near to you or do you have the Bfing Helpline numbers? Milk Matters do a virtual diagnosis service too.

I was emailing a Group leader from the La Leche League in the early weeks so I will try emailing them again. But I just had a look at the Milk Matters website. Looks very informative. May give them a call too.

Just rooted around DDs mouth and although she has a little heart shaped tip it doesn't seem restricted. But I'm no expert....will definitely look into it though.

Thanks again. Will post when I know more!
