Is this day / night confusion? What should I do?

Hi all,
My 7 week old had been feeding pretty much every 2 hours around the clock. All of a sudden at the weekend he started going 4 hours between feeds in the daytime, but he continues to wake every hour or two in the night. Has he got day and night mixed up? What should I do? He's now only having about 4 big feeds in the day- he went 5 hours between feeds yesterday (I woke him up in the end as he'd never done that before- my boobs were like rocks! Should I feed him more in the day? - even if I have to wake him up?

Thank you!

I'm breastfeeding btw

I had this with DD1. I ended up waking her in the say to start a feed every 3 hours. He'll get the hang of day and night soon (honestly!) But in the meantime I think it helps to try and get him feeding more regularly in the day.

Er, waking her in the day that is

What's your bedroom set up like? I'm wary of waking a sleeping baby but how was he after you woke him?

you can cue them in to day time/night time. Try taking him out for a walk in the day so he feels the natural light and fresh air. Blackout blinds helped us with settling in the evening. Also how active is he between feeds and sleeps?

He only sleeps in the bedroom at night- no blackout blinds or anything, but he settles well after feeds usually
Min the daytime he naps in sling/ car seat (if he's fallen asleep in the car) or on me.

Would encouraging him to feed every 3 hours in the day mean he might feed less frequently at night because he's more full? I was really pleased when he started going 4 hours in the day, as I assumed it would continue through the night.

[waves at faith] - I am keeping up with our April thread and will be back to post when I'm in a more positive frame of mind x

It's worth trying but there's no guarantee! I wouldn't wake so much as make noise and try to stir him in the day. Blackout blinds seem to help Faithlet settle and stay settled. He may well just settle but I would take him out in fresh air in the day time.
