Best bottles/teats for bottle feeding expressed milk

Hi, I've been expressing a bottle for middle of the night feeds as my 7 week old has a very tight and vigorous latch in the middle of the night. I was getting on OK with the Avent starter bottles at first but then he started to cough and splutter with them and push the teat out with his tongue. I don't want to persevere with them in case it gives him bad associations with bottle feeding and he rejects bottles entirely.

Can anyone recommend a better one to use? One that doesn't cause nipple confusion or bad latch habits and also prevents him gulping too much air as he is very windy. Thanks.

Mine likes tomee tipee closer to nature teats for an expressed feed every other-ish day.

He couldn't get on with a medela calma.

He's not windy but dr browns are meant to be good for this

dd used to do this if the milk wasn't warmed precisely to her liking; it might be worth trying warming the milk a bit more

We got on ok with the closer to nature ones initially but then the teats started blocking. She now takes the avent bottles and I have the electric pump which is handy. We do warm her milk pretty well beforehand.

Ahh, that's interesting. I have been giving it to him at room temperature so I'll see if warming it helps. Thanks Smile

Try buying the next teat size up before new bottles too.

MAM anti-colic bottles work for us.

One of the best bits of advice I got when trying to get DS3 to take a bottle was to choose a teat which closest resembled my nipple shape after a feed and start with the cheapest version of that working up to the priciest if you need to.
I wish I had had that advice with my other DC it would have saved me a fortune in bottles!

Interesting tip. I'd better get one of these then 'cos mine tend to come out flat on one side! Grin

MAM teats have worked for us - they work with Avent bottles if you want to save buying a whole new bottle system! I have found regular and natural Avent teats a complete disaster with all 3.
