Thrush and milk supply

Hi,

I've got thrush on one of my nipples, and I am expressing from it. Is it normal to find that milk supply on that breast has decreased by half? Sad I'm going to have to top that feed up with formula now. Any advice?

Do you have to top up? Could you offer that breast first, then the other, then if Lo is still not satisfied the first breast again?

What is making you believe that the supply has dipped?

I think you need to start offering milk from the thrush side again and it will pick up; if you're taking medication it should start to take effect so it is quite possible your baby won't catch it.

Thanks! The dr said I shouldn't put baby on there until I've been on the medication for a week

Sounds reasonable. In that case, once the week has gone, go crazy and offer that boob to your baby as much as possible. There's no reason that your supply won't pick up again quickly if you do that

I'd just check the advice the doctor gave you with a BFC. Have you got the bfing helpline numbers?

Have you read the thrush info on kellymom too?

Trying2bMindful · 06/06/2013 22:51

Errr, does your GP know what they are talking about? Why are you not putting baby to the boob?
Btw you do know pumping is no indication of actual supply don't you? Ie I could get v little from pumping but baby was able to get plenty.
Please speak to one of the helplines. I had thrush and was never advised to not offer the breast. We just treated baby's mouth with nystatin solution for 2 weeks.
The nipple thrush cream I used was totally absorbed by the time I fed so there was no need to wipe beforehand too.
Please Try the bf helplines listed at the link below.

Good luck. Thrush is so painful.
