A couple of reflux questions.

I think my 13 day old daughter has mild reflux, is this something we need to get checked by a doctor or just put up with for now? Obviously it could just be the fact that shes so little...but how do we know ?

I have read somewhere that dummies can help with reflux, does anyone have any experience of this? I'm breastfeeding her and all is going well apart from the sick! at the moment, would introducing a dummy this early effect the breastfeeding? Or is it worth it to stop the sick?!

Thanks

I would get her checked by GP.

I think all babies are sick after feeds to some extent. DS has been very refluxy, sick after every feed and between many. Don't think its worth going to GP unless severe, as long as weight gain ok etc. You could talk to health visitor if you are concerned

Go to the GP. My baby was playing up with reflux. She just spat a dummy out. Gaviscon did help but it was hard work

Babies being sick is normal, reflux only needs to be treated if it is causing your baby pain or discomfort, or they are not gaining weight because of it. The eosphageal sphincter in babies which should stop food coming back up from the stomach can be weak in babies, hence the sick, and it's something they grow out of.

If baby is not bothered by it, then bibs and muslins are your friend.

Thanks, the health visitor is coming on Wednesday for her first visit so I'll mention it to her and see what she thinks too.

Agree with noble giraffe, mild reflux is normal. If she is v unsettled, in pain or not gaining weight then see GP, otherwise, holding her upright after feeds and using a sling/ carrier can help. Most of them just outgrow it. For any babies that have serious problems, the site Little Refluxers is invaluable.

Out of interest is there an average age they outgrow mild reflux?

Thanks

I've heard mentioned they grow out of it when start solids. Not sire how TRUE that is.

My DS grew out of it by about 3-4 months. I remember the surprise when he got to the end of the day in the same outfit he started in and it gradually happening more often.

I found feeding on one side only helped. If he had both, then most of it would come back. He needed little and often.
