Tips for feeding discretely when you have big boobs

My DD is 15 days old and breastfeeding is going really well. She had a difficult birth so we haven't really been out and about yet but am hoping to start leaving the house this weekend.

My issue is I have enormous 38K boobs and have no idea how to feed her without exposing acres of flesh. Each boob is literally bigger than my head, and as my baby is tiny they look even more ridiculous when she's feeding! I've been lent a peephole nursing top but the holes are way off where my nipples actually sit and she struggled to latch when I was wearing it. i don't fancy wearing one of those modestytent contraptions but have no idea how to dress so I can easily feed without freezing or flashing more than I'd like. Anyone got any tips?

The easiest thing to do is wear a best under a top - floaty ones work best I think - so that you pull down your bra cup and best but your top remains on place covering your bra.

I used a pillow to feed my dd as I found it very difficult to feed comfortably without it. I ended up taking it everywhere with me but I probably wouldn't recommend that as it was huge and not exactly easy to carry around Smile however it made my life so much easier and I could sit and have lunch or drinks put with friends woh dd latched on Shock

Hi,
I am a similar size to you and have bf a couple of babies here there and everywhere! I reckon in some ways big boobs make it easier, because it is a bit easier just cuddling the baby in on your lap, and lifting your top with a normal nursing bra underneath, I didn't have to lift my top too far (not that my nipples are at waist height!) I have seen women with smaller boobs having to pull down their top in order to get a comfy position which is much more revealing.
You could wear a vest top (to pull down) or a special under boob tube type affair if you want to be sure of not flashing tummy.

I have massive boobs and am an expert at feeding out of the house anywhere and everywhere. What you need is a bunch of vest tops. I got mine from Primark, they cost £2 each and come in lots of colours. They are also nice and long. Each morning you put on your nursing bra, one of your vest tops and then a loose blouse or tee shirt that you can pull up.

When your baby wants to feed, you undo your bra and get your boob out over the top of the vest. Then you pull up the loose tee shirt and latch baby on. Drape the tee shirt over the top of your boob. The vest top covers your tummy and back so you don't get draughty. Voila!!

I thought my double EEs were big, shows my ignorance.

I definitely think the advice above is valuable. I have big breasts and smallish nipples, which makes feeding awkward sometimes as have to lift the boob to give her enough room to get the nipple.

Thanks for the tips Smile This is the sort of thing you can never find out from the baby books. An outing to stock up on load of vests is now on the cards...

I stick one corner of the muslin under my bra strap on shoulder so it covers me a bit as it drapes down over boob & baby. (My boobs are tiny though) but it works.

I am plentiful of boob too and use either a large muslin tucked into one or both bra straps (both covers more when DS suddenly pulls off) or if i want to be really subtle i wear a longish light scarf - pull up top and arrange one end of scarf over boob and other behind babys head - is god for when he doesn't want his head covered up - and everyone just thinks youre wearing a nice scarf and cuddling baby!

Great tips! I fed today for the first time outside of the house (in the car actually as I wasn't sure how to handle things discreetly!) Iam finding it hardto get my boob out without showing it to the world... But will try out some of the tips shared on here. Think I'll also do a feed in front of a mirror as it might not be as bad as I think it is :D

Muslins worked great for me, one rolled up as a boob prop, the over draped over to protect my modesty.

My boobs are bigger than a h and low as hell nipples i feed descreetly walkiing round shops and people still stroke his head and not realise im feeding! hes 8 weeks old! i dont use the contraptions lol to much work. i dont use no fancy top either. i wear a bra then a vest top and a loose top and just pull oose top up and vest top down. and latch him on done! or i also bought a cheap gown from primark i cut the holes in the boobs out. then i just wear a loose top ontop of it and just lift up bra up and latch done! easy peasy . xx also were a sling to feed him a moby wrap which i didnt think was possible for boobs like mine xx

mummy2under2 · 02/06/2013 22:57

put baby across you , then get boob out undeath your loose top so noeone sees it . then put baby close to you then lift long top up and latch him. i found scarves and covers to make it harder in the bgining so never bothered which i am suprused about because i was also a caar breastfeeder with my daughter.

Vest under top works well, although it's easiest with a looser top and I don't find that as flattering on my figure (enormo boobs so relatively small waist).

Vest and cardy can work well - button up top of cardy and pull up, vest down.

M&S do vests in a range of colours with a pretty lace trim for 2 for £8. I now have about 8...

I love these H&M tops tablet.hm.com/gb/product/03578#article=03578-B -
They have them in a few colours, I find them v easy to keep covered up in.

These ones www.mamafeelsgood.com/nursing-tops/ are only very slightly easier than top with a vest top underneath, but the designs are quite young and funky and make me feel less bosomy and frumpy, so worth considering.

And at the weekend I was at a wedding. Wore a v neck jersey dress, had a shawl which matched my accessories in the pram, when the time came to feed unhooked bra, pulled out boob (always a harder part of the process than it's meant to be), then pulled down dress with the shawl draped over. I could latch baby on like this and then move the shawl so it was covering any remaining exposed bits but not baby's face. Muslin also works for this. And if you're booby when not bf'ing, suspect you may already have more than one item of clothing with a jersey v neck...

My baby's 7 weeks old and I'm currently a 38HH - I've fed in public quite a lot and not really flashed anyone yet! I also find doing what I can to make sure baby doesn't fuss/pull off helps - so feeding before she gets v hungry, and changing her nappy first to wake her up if she's sleepy. It all feels so much easier and subtler if you're not wrestling a screaming baby as well as two layers of clothing and a terrifyingly engineered nursing bra - but it took me a bit longer to get to know her enough to do this, and I'm not completely there.

Novel length post, sorry...
