3 week old feeding in bursts

Hi there

Dd has been ff for the past week as she was slow to gain weight. Overnight she will take a full bottle (110mls) every 3-3.5 hours, but during the day she will snack more in 50ml bursts. The cycle starts in the morning as she is generally sick or fills her nappy and she wakes herself up, then takes a small amount of formula to get herself to sleep, then wakes up hungry a (v) short time later.

The health visitor had no suggestions other than a growth spurt, but she's been doing this for the past week. I guess it could also be a phase, but any suggestions welcome! I'm still fairly nervous about leaving the house and not being able to time feeds isn't helping!

Thanks

She was probably getting lots of small amounts of breast milk so she'll be used to feeding little and often.

Formula milk tends to make babies feel fuller for longer than breast milk.

She will probably adjust.

This is a normal pattern for a new baby - not sure why this would be something you would want to change? You can still go out with her - take ready to feed formula?

As she grows her tummy will get bigger and be able to hold more food which will keep her going for longer.

Thanks all!

Coco -she was feeding very little and often when bfing, which was part of the weight problem - my latch wasn't good t all, so that does make sense.

Tiktok - I don't want to change it particularly, I mentioned it to the health visitor who though it was odd and acted surprised. If she'd said it was normal I would have been quite happy! I've got the cartons and a bottle warmer, but I'm just a bit nervous, no idea why.. Just need o bite the bullet and do it!

Thanks again
