Is it ok to make the hole bigger in a Mam teat myself?

My baby is 14 weeks old and is currently breastfed for all feeds except for one bottle at 5pm.

Today I realized that the Mam bottles I've been using only have size 1 teats in them. I need to move up a size but don't want to buy size 2 and 3 while he makes the transition.

Will it be OK to use a pin to make the hole a little bigger in his current teats or is there a reason why I shouldn't?

Any suggestions would be great fully received before the next bottle at 5pm tomorrow.

Thanks

I wouldn't as it will make a bit that might be hard to sterilise and also possibly loose silicone. Why don't you want to just use size 2? Your DS will just adapt if he's ready for a faster flow, that's what DD1 did.

No, the bottle police will arrest you and you'll get jail time.

Yes, of course it is. You'll know if you made the holes too big... Wink

But really, there's no reason not to just use size 2.

Totally up to you. The manufacturers will of course tell you that it's Very Important to buy size 2. Not because they want your money, natch, but because, erm, something something something.

You are an adult, and you can definitely make the decision to make a hole in a bit of plastic, or not.

I only used size one for bottle feeding when breast feeding my thought process was to ensure she didn't get lazy and realise she didn't have to work for bottled feeds.

Why do you need to move up a size (genuine question - not being rude!)? I did the same when mix feeding and kept the slowest teat to make it hard(er) work. We have never moved to a size 3 either. You can buy the teats fairly cheaply from Amazon.

same as lovebeingup* I mean!

Maybe I should stick with size one for a bit then. He's not kicking up a fuss yet and has been difficult to breastfeed at times. I really don't want him to start to prefer the bottle.

The only reason I didn't want to buy size 2 is that I'm a cheapskate! I don't want to spend £4 on them if I was only going to use them for a short time before moving to size 3.

Thanks for all the he responses Grin
