Weight gain in ebf 8 week old - GP concerned

DD2 was 7lb 4, born at full term, normal (very speedy) delivery.
Was just below 50th centile at birth and has now dropped just below 25th, HV and GP are concerned and even suggested bottle (although I know breastmilk has more calories).
She lost very little weight in the first few days and was 9lb 14 when weighed last Thursday.
She has a tongue tie cut 10 days ago and is now on meds for thrush.
Should I be worried about her weight and be trying to up it or are they over-reacting?

On paper it is hard to know why they are worried - a drop of one centile space (which this is) is not of itself anything concerning.

If there is a justfied concern about weight, then the easiest thing to do for most women and the only thing that will protect your milk supply is to breastfeed more often.

Breastmilk has about the same calories as formula.

The point about doing more breastfeeding is that it does 2 things i) it increases your dd's intake, which is what they want and ii) it boosts your milk supply

There are no side effects from breastfeeding more often, either :)

You can ask your HV and GP what would be the drawback in bf more often.

Thanks tiktok, the GP said the weight was 'significant' but added that DD is 'so well in herself' that he did not think anything was wrong and then added 'had I thought about bottlefeeding?' So all a bit odd.
DD1 dropped one centile and no-one was concerned but then she was 9lb at birth (dropped more than 10% just after though while DD2 dropped only 50g which was 2%).
DD2 has been feeding better since we have started the thrush mouth gel and there is less saliva so maybe her mouth is more comfortable now.
She was poo'ing between one and three times a day and poo'd six times yesterday so she must be taking in more.
Have never limited feeding or tried to stick to 3/4 hour feeds, just fed whenever she seemed to want it but offering it much more now and being stricter about offering both sides.

I would say that if the GP's first and only suggestion was to consider bottle feeding, s/he doesn't know much about infant feeding. They're generalists after all..... if your DD's otherwise totally well then I would just offer more often as Tiktok mentions.

The tongue tie ligation may improve things in any case.
