How to make newborn latch better when she's sleepy?

We've pretty much got a good latch (after reading lots of books and getting support from midwives and the breastfeeding clinic at the hospital). But at night, when my two week old wakes up she always seems too sleepy to open her mouth wide enough to get a good latch. It's the only time she ever seems to have a problem with it. Right now I'm taking her off every time she just takes the nipple and I try to get her back on properly. But after a while she just gets agitated that she's hungry and not getting anything and starts to winge which makes it even more difficult! I should say she's pretty difficult to rouse in general. If she wants to be asleep, nothing in the world will wake her. So suggestions to blow on her face and tickle her feet to wake her further unfortunately won't work :(

Maybe she is too warm, too bundled up making her too sleepy, maybe just a babygro to feed, no blankets, not to have the heating on full blast, open the window a little for some fresh air. Try and wake her up for 5-10 mns before the feed instead of just straight from sleep to boob.

I had this in hospital with one of mine, those places are bloody roasting and lovley midwife did this and opened a window, took off some layers, we were not in a draft but could feel the air iyswim. Try it.

How was last night blue? Are you feeding in a different position at night? Are you waking her for feeds?

We had a similar problem. Tickling feet, tickling hands, stripping off just down to nappy (good for skin to skin too!), changing her nappy ie causing a fuss, blowing gently on her... Keep at it as newborn babies need to feed little and often. we had a lot of help from the midwives even after leaving hospital, don't be afraid to ask for help.

Has she regained her birth weight/ putting on weight? If so, let her sleep and feed on demand?!
