Blocked duct? Or something else? Feeding 1yo...

I don't know what to do...

I am bf'ing my 1yo who is now down to just morning and night feeds, but last Tuesday I noticed a lump in my right boob, which is still there. It's painless and about the size of a grape. I am reaching the end of my tether with worry as I just can't seem to get rid of it and I'm terrified it's something sinister.

I went to the doc on Thursday who said it was a blocked duct, and if I developed any other symptoms or it was still there in a few weeks to go back. But then he also implied that I should be thinking about stopping breastfeeding and that I didn't need to do anything and it would probably just disperse [sceptical] whereas everything I've read says that a blocked duct needs to be cleared to try to avoid mastitis.

But I have tried so many things to get rid of it - warm compress, massage, cabbage leaves, acrobatic feeding positions, expressing etc etc - but it's still there. That and the fact that it is not hot or tender have me really concerned that it's something scary.

Can anyone offer any reassurance/advice/tips that I haven't tried. I'm a bit of a nervous wreck at the moment Sad

Thanks so much.

Does it feel like a tiny, quite hard balloon that moves around under your finger? I've got a few of those and they're benign cyst type things. Can you go and see a different doctor?

I've always been lead to believe if you can move it around plenty then it's probably ok not sound medical advice
You keep feeding until you're ready to stop and don't let anyone change your mind. Why would you stop just because dc is 1?
Your breasts will be very lumpy and odd for a while when you've been feeding.
It could also be a breast mouse, harmless lumps in the tissue.
Go back and see another gp if you're still worried.

It does sort of move around. It's at about 10 o' clock in the middle of the tissue.

I will try and make an appointment with my regular GP as the one I saw was a different one. As it happens, I am starting to thing that I'd like to stop soon, but he didn't know that and I just thought that was really bad advice. My usual one is really nice and is a mum too so hopefully knows her stuff about this sort of thing.

Thanks very much for your responses.

Oh, and I'm also thinking of getting hold of some lecithin - does anyone know anything about its effectiveness for clearing blocked ducts?

Just to update, in case people are reading this with a similar problem...

The doc was great and referred me to the breast clinic. I went this morning and they gave me an ultrasound. It was a fluid-filled cyst which they drained. Not particularly pleasant, but such a relief. It may have been related to breastfeeding in that it was probably caused by my hormone levels fluctuating, but not by any physical blockage.
