depression when giving up b/f

Since I started cutting out my 15 month dd's breast feeds (currently down to 1.5 a day) I've been feeling lethargic and increasingly depressed. I wondered if this is coincidence (always had a 'tendency' to anxiety and depression pre-pregnancy but have been a joyful milky cow since then), or there's a hormonal change, or if it's more emotionally to do with 'letting her go'. I'd appreciate any advice or thoughts on this.

Is there is a reason for you to cut down? if not why not just go back to more feeds if you don't feel ready to cut down. I am intruiged by the 1.5 feeds, what exactly is a half breastfeed?!

BekkiKay · 24/01/2004 21:45

Its hormonal. It'll take a week or two to pass. Listen to me like I'm an expert or something
But imo it should pass in that time if you stop completley if it carries on you should go straight to your gp.
Why are you cutting feeds back?

My DD is 15 mths adn she got increasingly non committal about her feeds, this hurt me a lot. I felt like something had stoped beating inside me
But now its ok it passes trust me, you learn to respect the next milestone they get to

Evita, I love the 1.5 breastfeeds. I still bf my 11 month old 4 or 5 times a day as I don't work and we both love it, so why mess about with sippy cups etc. The thought of stopping or even cutting down sends me into a teary panic, which is why I currently have my "sinus pain" thread going. I'm sure I'm feeling the sinus pain more because of the worry of not wanting to stop bfing. I hope you find something that works for you.

BekkiKay, not stopping because I want to. I've not been well and will probably have to have some medication and also am pretty exhausted. I've got a thread on the 'health' section about what's happening health wise.

bobthebaby, I'm exactly the same. I LOVE feeding my daughter. It makes me terribly sad to stop. My partner loves me feeding her too! I won't have any more children so wanted this to carry on as long as possible, but alas, life doesn't turn out the way you want to always.
