moving to mix feeding, and introducing solids... which to do first?

DD is EBF. I will probably start to introduce solids/purées in about a month when she will be 6 months old (assuming showing signs of readiness etc)

I also would like to switch to mix feeding at some point over the next month or two and only BF once a day after that. i always planned to EBF till 6 months and then stop or mostly stop.

however I assume it's not a great idea to do both kinds of weaning at once as it will be too many changes for her... if so, is it better to do the switch to bottles first, or the introduction of purées etc first? or can I do it all at once?

Babies are pretty resiliant. Do whatever you want. I'm sure she'll manage.

However, for the record, if she takes to solids, you might find that BF demands are reduced sufficiently, quickly that bfing is not anything like it was before and you don't mind doing it, as with food, she'll be taking water and other fluids anyway.

ah ok!

thing is I expect she will take a while to the hang of food as she is young for her age due to being 6 weeks premature - so she probably won't take much in for a while I suspect.

didn't realise I'd be giving water when weaning! time to buy a weaning book I think!

Well whatever you do don't bother with a bottle. Any no-valve cup will be good.

Honestly, once the baby is no longer SOLEY dependent on the breast, everything gets easier.

I agree with starlight I'd introduce the food and then see how you feel about the breastfeeding - ime it gets much much easier once they are also eating other food.

thanks. when can they use a cup? DD is crap at drinking from bottles (she has one each day at 10.30pm but it's pretty messy) so would be great if we could skip bottles altogether.

Can start with a cup from 4 months I think. They're pretty messy though.

ok! presume you mean a cup with a spout rather than an open cup...?
