11 weeks old suddenly not latching on properly

My DS will be 11weeks old tomorrow and took to breast feeding brilliantly but the last couple of days he's not been latching on correctly, it's like he's not opening his mouth wide enough and just sucking the end of my nipple which hurts! I've tried taking him on and latching him on properly and he does do it even if it takes a few goes but I'm just wondering if anyone knows why this has started happening if there's any way I can stop it. Also he has a slight tounge tie but its never been a problem! Xxx

Is there a bfing support group you could go to? Have you called one of the bfing helplines?

Have a google too, look at "youtube jack newman latch" and "biological nursing".

Think it would also be worthwhile getting Lo checked for tongue tie.

it was about this age that DD's posterior tongue tie started to cause us real problems (having not been a problem before) so that could be it...

Oh no I did fear it might be the tounge tie! Think I will go to my local support group thins week and speak to the BF coucilor. Thankyou for your comments and advice! :)

Are you still trying to hold your LO the same way you did when they were brand new? I would second the poster who suggested you look into biological nursing, as it may be something as simple as your baby having grown and BN will allow baby to find their own comfortable position and you may find the latch improves.

I suggests you get yourself along to a bf support group (baby cafe, la leche league etc) where they will be able to observe you feeding. It may be tongue tie, but it may be something much more easily fixable. Take heart x

I think my position might have something to do with it, when I said he's taken to bf brilliantly he really has, he went from 7lb15 at birth to 14lb8 at 8 weeks! So he's much more difficult to position now because he's so long! I have had a look at those positions and I'm going to give it a go tomorrow when DH is at work so I can take my time with it! Thanks again ladies hopefully I will get it sorted quickly! :)
