Posterior tongue tie, but feeding well?

Off to see someone tomorrow but dd is nearly nine months so just too late to have it sorted easily and she feeds well, pretty much always has other than the odd plugged duct and mastitis at the very start when she was two weeks.

She has never slept well and has reflux, I think it's a combination of pain and sleep association issues as I have always jumped up the minutes he wakes to prevent her from waking dd2.

Other than the sleep we have no issues with feeding I don't think so maybe it is best to just leave it now or will it cause speech problems anyone know?

Think you need mawbroon.

Maybe she's taking down air hence all the wakings? My dd had her TT snipped but still has lip tie which means she swallows air (I don't always realise) and I have to wind her otherwise she will wake a lot. She also has reflux triggered by dairy, soya and other food so I have cut those out instead of giving meds.
I read that TT could give speech problems - but not always. So you'd need to get it assessed to see how bad although getti it revised for an older baby requires a general anesthetic I think

Thanks yes the lady I am seeing tomorrow says she will assess and refer on if needs be. I wondered if the tummy troubles were related.

I worry about speech as older dd has severe speech problems. In fact I would like to get her checked or would it not affect them after a certain time maybe...she is six.

Ok any experience on late tongue tie procedures? The specialist hv thought its worth a referral but dh dead against it and we wouldn't even have known there was an issue till I saw the osteopath. Don't know what to do as don't want unnecessary stuff done but then don't want any speech issues later for her either...

Is there another possible cause for your DD1's speech problems?
I'm not an expert but I can see where your DH is coming from. I would no way put my 9 month old DC under general anaesthetic unless absolutely necessary.
Good luck, hope things get sorted.

ZolaBuddleia · 14/03/2013 19:41

My HV said they don't do anything about TT til it's evident is has affected speech, approx 3 YO.

Thanks for replies. She can refer somewhere where they would do the procedure without anaesthetic under one year old. Older dd has all sorts of speech a nd Lang issues but partly they are physical so I am wondering if she has got tongue tie and would get it sorted if so, even if just for the chance of things improving for her, she has had grommets under a general for similar reasons.

I suppose for baby dd2 it's more worry that she will face some of the issues dd2 has had and I would love to spare her that but would need good reason to believe she would have problems if it wasn't sorted.

Sorry meant to say, yes dd1 has speech a dn Lang disorder so it's not all tongue tie even if she does turn out to have tongue tie. But some of her speech production issues are unexplained and physical rather than neurological like the other ones.

Have a look at the tongue tie babies support group on Facebook.

There is no need to put anyone of any age under GA for tongue tie revision, in fact it is preferable to have them awake so that tongue function can be assessed as the procedure is being done.

DS1 had his done age 6. He had a whole long list of problems which were related to his ties (he had anterior and posterior ties and an upper lip tie as well as a high palate), many of which have resolved since the revision.

used2bthin · 15/03/2013 15:02

Thanks mawbroom will check that out now. Dd1 would need sedation as she also has asd and other issues I am worried she won't cope with the check even but that is good to know for dd2. It's a posterior tie and because feeding is ok, apparently she is just one point above the threshold for needing it done.

The procedure sounds horrible, I gather it is not as bad as it sounds?
