its a killer, isn't it Confused

around 1st birthday, they tend to revert to newborn (who knows why? developmental leap?) but your dd has been ill too, so its a double whammy

at least you can distract her with drinks/snacks/books/TVBlush

this too shall pass

can you get someone else to watch her for a while, so you can go out for a walk/go and get a coffee etc.

Smile you are doing great!

Oh thank god it's not just my DS then. Sorry no advice but sympathy- am sitting here typing left-handed while DS suckles and pulls/strokes my hair during what should be a quick feed to sleep before a good nap. The nap won't happen if I take him off now either feeds.
DS is also 11 mo and recovering from a virus picked up at nursery. He's lost weight and won't take a bottle or any significant amount of water/ juice/ milk in a cup/ beaker so I feel locked into bf and anxious about his reversion to newborn state of play! Not least as I work part time and won't be able to bf him in day time for next 3 days.
offers a Brew and Biscuit

hmm my dd has too had a virus and lost lot of weight so maybe they are trying to put it all back on now they are better.
omg tho i am with you with the stroking thing. dd has stroked my face and boobs all fecking night for the last few nights. it makes my toes curl now.
she will not eat anything or drink anything apart from bm so she is pretty much ebf again. and i work part time too.
reckon the longest stretch of sleep i have had in last week has been 40 mins unbroken. oh joy

Going on this narrow poll then I'd hazard you're right and it's about beefing up after a virus. And probably the comfort while not feeling quite right too..
I worry about the whole basically-ebf thing again as surely my supply is way lower than it was before? My boobs certainly feel soft all the time. And am not sure if he's put any weight back on yet.
Guessing you've not had any luck with a bottle/ cup etc either..
Working today and mumsnetting to distract myself from wondering if he's had any food/drink at nursery
Was up 4 or 5 times last night! Hope you had better luck.

feekerry · 14/03/2013 20:33

ye my boobs are really soft nowadays. just like normal boobs now. weird to think dd is still getting so much milk but i do feel the letdown and hear her swallowing so its still there.
we have progressed slightly to eating some solids and a drop or two of water but still suckling all fecking night. sigh.
at least with a newborn they stay still whilst feeding and its all snuggly and nice.
now i have to put up with a boob crazed monster who practically assaults me when wanting milk, and twiddles, and strokes and breaks off every.nano second to check what advert is on the tv. sigh

It is REALLY annoying sometimes isn't it..

Just out of interest, how much weight did your DD lose? DS is as thin as a pin now and I'm finding it all quite stressful tries not to laugh hysterically at understatement

MewlingQuim · 15/03/2013 16:24

I have spent the day with 1 year old DD wailing until I cuddle her, then she struggles free wailing and wants on the floor, then she wails to be picked up and cuddled....over and over and over arrrgh!

MewlingQuim · 15/03/2013 16:28

Is your ds walking carter ? IME babies often get a bit thin looking once they start using up lots of energy cruising or walking. My DD is looking a bit skinny at the moment but apparently she is still following her percentile ok.

CarterGirl · 17/03/2013 12:09

MewlingQuim - thanks, he is crawling at high speed and cruising so I do think that has contributed to his weight loss but think there may be more to it as he has actually dropped from top of his percentile to bottom. He his still very hit and miss with food and clearly just isn't taking in enough food/ breast milk for whatever reason. I'm going to get a referral to a paediatrician to check him over.

feekerry · 18/03/2013 20:16

i never get dd weighed so not sure how much she has lost. can see her dinky little ribs now tho and her nappies look a bit large so she has clearly lost quite a bit..
i have had an awful weekend of it tho. i was bridesmaid at my brothers wedding and dd was awful quite frankly. she constantly grabbed at my top the whole weekend of the wedding, wanted to feed every 10 mins regardless of where we were. if i tried to distract her for a min for example in the middle if the ceremony she had an epic meltdown. i resorted to spending half my time in the loo as had to fully take my dress off to feed her.... not good...

yeah, I can see DS's little ribs and nappy looks larger too - sounds similar. Why OH WHY won't he take any other form of nourishment than the boob?? Ok he does take a bit of food now but not as much as I think he should be eating to gain weight...
The wedding sounds a mare. Sympathies! My parents are a little Hmm at me having to take DS away for a feed after he has a melt down during an attempted meal time.
