I am due in May and wondering whether its worth buying this feeding pillow from mothercare?

Thanks :)

Crickey no! Get yourself to eBay and get one for a tenth of the price.

I got a widgey pillow for dd2, £1.95 and it did the job. Didn't use one with dd1 but did use lots of sofa cushions stacked up which did the same job although was a bit of a pain each time I wanted to switch sides.

Another vote for the widgey here too, used it for both of my DD's and it beat a pillow hands down. this one however Boots do an inflatable one that's really similar and great for travelling that's half the price iirc here

Thanks ladies! I just haven't had much luck with eBay tbh, maybe I'll just wait till baby comes and see ...

I never used a pillow at all. They aren't an essential bit of kit, many mothers never use them. You could also just use a normal pillow. Your idea to wait and see is a good one, you might get along perfectly well without one :)

Definitely not worth buying. I ended up with a horribly painful neck and shoulders from a similar pillow I used in the first couple of weeks, as it was just a tiny bit too low and made me hunch over.
I'm far, far more comfortable using ordinary sofa cushions and pillows. That way I can add or take away cushions as I change position and as DS gets bigger. You may also find you often don't need a cushion at all- when you're feeding in bed, for example.

Spend the money on cake instead, it's far more useful for the early bfing days...

They can be used for beast OR bottle feeding, and really protect your neck and shoulders from getting sore through poor posture. I used it with a sheepskin on for my baby to lie on when he had a bad cough, to prop his shoulders up iykwim, at 4m+I used it for him to lie on facing forward on the carpet which he really liked under his armpits, and now at 7 months he sits up with it behind him around his bum and it protects him from falling over backwards, do personally I think any quite firm one if well worth the money.

Absolutely definitely yes. I didn't have one for the first few days and then my oh came home with one for about £25 which I did think a bit steep, but I couldn't have been without it. Great for me as I am only slight with quite small boobs so I needed baby to be raised up to me. It really takes pressure off my legs, back and arms. I also found it really useful for when she has finished just to lay her on it in front of me to let her tummy settle before burping. Also now she is a bit older she can sit propped up in it herself, which saves me putting her in a bouncy chair etc or in her Moses basket when she is far more interested in playing and looking around. And she is now also able to lie across it for tummy time. The other advantage I found was that in the early days I did accidentally nod off when feeding her on occasions when I was incredibly tired (which obviously I felt terrible about) but with the pillow I was at least reassured that I knew I couldn't drop her as my arms were completely supported on the pillow. I think kiddicare currently have one for £20, I would definitely recommend it and get one now because you will want it in those first few days after the birth I am sure x

I'd suggest waiting and then trying some out at a bf clinic or borrowing friends'. I have one that was too firm and put ds too high against me so it was useless. I've ended up using normal cushions.

It was however great for using to prop ds or help him sit in the same way as victoria describes above.

FierceBadIggi · 11/03/2013 18:38

I had a 'My Brest Friend' one for ds2, really loved it - think it was 30 or 40 quid. I loved that it strapped on to you, and had quite a flat, firm surface.
Only really useful for first few months, but if you're feeding a million times a day anything helps.
I sold mine on ebay after I'd finished with it.
