I'm knackered from constantly feeding in the night, my dd1 is getting neglected because I'm feeding all day, I've spent a fortune seeing lactaction consultant and getting tongue tie snipped and i have sodding lopsided boobs and for what? Rubbish weight gain and a really unsettled baby.

Sorry, just wanted to vent. I really really want this to work but it's crap. Dd is 14wo and not sure how much longer we can carry on.

fruitsalad your dd is probably in a growth spurt as 3 months is one of the biggies. Babies are ofte irritable in growth spurts too. I remember DS suddenly went from being quite floppy to being quite rigid around that time.

From a practical point of view, have you considered using a sling to carry your dd? Learning to feed in a sling helped me get out and about when DS was a similar age. I would often do this in the supermarket aisles! It helps to meet your DD's need for physical contact with you.

Don't give up. It is worth it in the end, but definitely get the tongue examined.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/03/2013 19:54

I do use slings, although have not cracked feeding in one. Slightly complicated by the fact my Dd was born with clubfoot and wears special boots with a brace. But actually, that's a thought, i might see if i can find a local slingmeet where i can perhaps get some help.

If you use Facebook, search for slings and things and you can find a whole host of mamas who can help. Hopefully someone local to you. I use a mei tai to bf in.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/03/2013 20:20

Can you explain how you Bf in a mei tai? I have a connecta which is the same shape but with clips.

Yup, I have a Connecta too! Make sure your baby's head is about the right height for your boob. Rummage around to get boob out of nursing bra and put nipple in baby's mouth. I would put the sleep hood up to be discreet to not frighten shoppers off. I would face the products as I was having a rummage around. No need to camp out in a cafe or on a sofa.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 10/03/2013 23:49

So do you lower the waist bit or just loosen the shoulder straps? Because i wear Dd quite high up in the connecta.

You would have to loosen the waistband and shoulder straps a bit to drop it down. It doesn't have to be by much though.

byhec · 11/03/2013 07:26

Not sure where you are in herts but in north Herts there are some bfn drop ins, there's one in letchworth today (1230 until 2 at icknield children's centre) with some very knowledgeable people who might be able to check positioning and give some advice

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 11/03/2013 15:37

Thanks byhec - that isn't far from me so I went today. Got a few ideas where I'm going wrong and and going to try expressing after feeds to get up my supply. Tedious, but hopefully will help. And if THAT doesn't work then I think I really will have tried everything!

fruit if I were you, I wouldn't worry about expressing. Your dd is in a growth spurt and she is telling your body to make more. Expressing is useful if you are building up a supply to go out.

Hope today has been better.

Meringue33 · 13/03/2013 00:39

Dreamy how did you get in touch with the WY LC?

DreamySleepyNightySnoozySnooze · 15/03/2013 16:08

Meringue, there is a drop-in Baby Cafe at the Chestnut Centre in Deighton, Huddersfield, every Monday between 1 and 3pm. The Lactation Consultant that runs it is called Claire Fox. It was very busy last time I went, so best to go early.

You can also contact her on 01422 357171. Baby Cafe info

I hope this is useful for you. If you're not near Huddersfield, Charlotte from Milk Matters is an LC, and she might be able to visit you, but she charges per visit and petrol costs. Milk Matters
