Is there a difference between ready made and powdered milk?

I've just put my 4 week old onto the powdered milk from the ready made cartons, aptamil. He's vomiting way more than ever.

Surely it's the same stuff? Confused

No, it isn't. The ready made milk is sterile and the powdered stuff isn't, for a start.

I must admit I used ready made cartons exclusively (expensive, yes) but I couldn't deal with the faff of making up bottles and all the strict rules regarding safety and water temperature, etc.

But could switching cause vomiting?

Try switching back and see if the vomiting stops?

I'd look at how you are preparing the feeds... without meaning to sound patronising are you using water that is over 70 degs? (I used water that has just been boiled to make feeds, the power can have nasty bacteria in it so the water needs to be super hot to kill it off).

The best way to make formula is to do it fresh but if you are unable to do this (not easy with a screaming baby) the best compromise - and the way I've done it with both of mine - is to make a small batch with boiling water, cool them in a sink full of very cold water and then keep them in the middle of the fridge until use. (I warm mine before use).

Every feed must be thrown away after a maximum of 2 hours once used. Personally I'd chuck after an hour.

The consistency is slightly different, the ready made I think is smoother as its factory made. My ds1 got a bit cloggy when I switched.
