Formula - "cooled boiled water"??

I'm hoping to mix feed, DS is 2 months and has been EBF up until now. I haven't made up a bottle of formula in 5 years and I'm wondering if the advice has changed. I used to use hot boiled water to make a bottle, but on the tin it says "cool" water, as per the instructions here. It then says "warm to feeding temperature", so I guess this means allow the water to cool completely first. Why? Help!

Boil the kettle and leave it up to 30 minutes and prepare formula at that point.

The water has to be hot to kill the bacteria in the formula.

Thanks juney

The water should be at least 70 degrees to kill the bacteria in the powder

Stupid Phone, first I couldn't see the replies just the OP and then it posts twice! Sorry Blush

The advice you have linked to is for a specialist milk, which does have to be made with cool water.

Normal formula has to be made up with water 70 degrees or over, as per the instructions on the tin.

I checked the website and it gave the same advice for the normal first milk too. maybe you should ring and ask why the advice is different to advice given in the UK

ilovepowerhoop · 18/02/2013 19:52

are you in Australia, OP?

ilovepowerhoop · 18/02/2013 19:55

silly question given you user name Blush

Yes I am in Australia. I did wonder if it was because it was hydrolysed formula but as they're giving the same advice for standard formula then clearly not! Will give them a ring to clarify. Weird, you would think the advice would be the same everywhere!
