Can anyone recommend a website for piccies of good/bad latches and positioning info? It's for a friend who's 6 months pregnant and planning on breastfeeding. Smile

\link{http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/basics/latch-resources.html\Kellymom} has a page with links to various breastfeeding resources, showing pictures of latching.

Good for your friend that she's getting ready. Is there a LLL group near her? She could start attending now and see some good latching in action!

Not very helpful, but I found that pics and things made it harder, becuase it meant I was trying to do what the pics and articles said I should, instead of going with what felt natural. I was told off by a cow of a midwife (on the antenatal ward after just being reunited with my ds who had been whisked off to special care for 2 days after the birth, and who I had happily bf in the crook of my arm) because I was doing it 'wrong' Angry. The other bit of advice I'd give her is that even with a correct latch it REALLY HURTS to begin with, for each feed and for the first few weeks. Best advice I was given was 'grit your teeth and count to ten'

I'd def recommend going to a LLL meeting or at least getting a contact number. I had a mare of a time bf dd1 and gave up.

When pregnant with dd2 I got gemmed up and went to LLL meetings and got someone to help me with positioning when dd2 was born. DD2 is now 11 weeks and bf is joy - I never thought I would be able to say this! Grin

Also, let your friend know that bf isn't always easy but help is available - In my experience antenatal classes don't 'mention' that there could be difficulties - so you feel crap went it goes pearshaped.

Thanks for the responses - I've pointed her in the direction of kellymom already and she says she's going to an LLL meeting so she seems really 'up' on things.

I agree hotmama - my AN classes showed videos of breastfeeding and it seemed so complicated! But they never suggested that, for most women, it doesn't come instantly or easily.
