Help prochlorperazine

Hello. I am breastfeeding and I have just been prescribed this tablet. Dd is 5 months old. GP said it is ok to take short term but "dr google" says no. Even lacmed doesn't say it is safe. I have just taken a tablet (before checking) so i am planning on pumping and dumping whenever I need one. (Only need when symptons occur) I have some ready made formula for emergencies so it is doable. Just wondering though how long I should pump and dump for after taking tablet or should i contact gp/pharmist for advice.
Thank you

??? Lactmed has no concerns regarding babies: "Based on minimal excretion of other phenothiazine derivatives, it appears that occasional short-term use of prochlorperazine for the treatment of nausea and vomiting poses little risk to the breastfed infant."

The papers listed suggest that in some cases, it might increase your milk because of the effect on your own hormonal situation (I think - have just skimmed the refs)..

Yes - good idea to share this info with GP/pharmacist if you are worried.

You'd need to get more info before deciding whether to pump and dump anyway - pointless if it doesn't reach the milk, and pointless if it reaches the milk only to move out of it again (like alcohol) and pointless if it has no effect on the milk anyway :)

Thank tiktok. In my panic I probably didn't read it properly. Was only thinking of pumping and dumping to maintain my supply whilst offerring formula. Has early supply problems so probably a little paranoid!
On that basis I will probably carry on breastfeeding as normal. Thank you.

Eeeek.....don't take my word for it! I am untrained in medical stuff and pharmacology, and only skimmed Lactmed :)

Check again in case I have looked up the wrong drug or had a blackout or something - all I meant to say was i) look again ii) check with doc/pharmacist if necessary.

Don't go all 'tiktok said I could do it!' on my ass :)

I have double checked and i just missed the 1st line of the post on lactmed. Also my gp is generally pretty trustworthy!
