when can I give cows milk?

DD2 is 9mo and has been reluctant to wean but has recently cottoned onto the idea of solids and joins in (in her own way) with our meals and so has eaten milk in various dishes and not had a bad reaction.

I have to go out tomorrow evening so DH will be giving her a bottle for the first time and putting her to bed

I do not think I will have expressed enough milk for her bedtime and dream feeds (mainly because I didn't start stocking up early enough) I don't want to buy a tin of 'follow on milk' as 90% of it will be wasted. Can she have full fat cows milk in her bottle?

Thank you wise MNers, I ought to know but don't. Need to be more organised.

Cow's milk is not supposed to be their main source of milk before one. One night of cow's milk should be fine.

Our HV said from that age a bottle of cows milk a day is ok. As long as it's not the main drink. Should be fine.

If you're worried, you can get 1 portion size cartons of ready made formula. If your DC hasn't had formula before, though, they might not like it - it tastes different to breast milk.

Thank you all

I feel really thick now for not having thought about the ready mixed cartons of formula! If I get a couple in, and pump as much as I can, then cows milk gives a 3rd option if DD is being fussy Grin
