I've got the chance of an AVENT electric steam steriliser with new bottles (all with slow release teats) to use from birth of baby. Would you recommend AVENT for both bottles and sterilisers (sorry, if not the right place for sterilier question)?

Thanks

If you have a microwave you could try the \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lx1534&bklist=icat,5,shop,shofeeding,feebottlefeeding,botbottles\mothercare microwave-able self sterilising bottles }that don't need a separate steriliser. They're great - especially when you realise that you've run out of sterilised bottles and need one in a hurry Grin - they take 90 secs in the microwave, a minute to stand and they are ready. Or if you just want to have one bottle to hand in case of emergency without the need to invest in a steriliser. And they fit into the avent sterilser too (for organised days Smile) if you go down that route as well.

They are also handy if you are going away to stay with friends/relatives etc and will have access to a microwave as you don't have to lug a big steriliser around with you. Or out and a friendly restaurant will zap them for you. For a whole host of reasons, I have found them to be a godsend; amongst other things saving time, sanity, sleep, space...

I started with the avent bottles just because that's all I could buy locally but had problems with the teats causing collic. We switched to using the nuk ones that were recommended to me by several people and found they helped even if it did take a while for the grannies to appreciate that they can't just pop the teat into the mouth any way up, they need to be the right way up! And they also fitted both the avent and the mothercare microwave-able bottles which is handy. I found it easiest to get them online - have used a site called \link{www.baby-supplies.co.uk\baby supplies} which have always been very helpful and stuff usually turns up in 2-3 days.

and nope, don't have shares in either of them Grin

They look really handy ... I could have done with one of those myself as a standby.

I would say the only downfall with Dr Browns probably is that they are not really interchangeable with anything. But having said that they are excellent.

Fairyglo - before you waste effort on sterilising bottles, please read \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?reverse=1&topicid=1364&threadid=91585&rnd=19290877187630695\this} thread!

I used Avent, Tommee Tippee and Boots bottles. I liked the Boots ones best - I just liked the way they are shaped to fit your hand. They all take any wide-neck teat. I used MAM teats with them all - tried a load and ds dribbled least with the MAM ones. He was worse with the NUBY ones with the funny bobbles on the outside.

anyone used boots or mothercare (i think they are called mothernature) bottles?
