DD is 4 weeks old and I still struggle to produce an ounce in the mornings and half an ounce in the afternoons. I think - hope - this is an issue with expressing techniques rather than my milk supply as DD is weeing and pooing and finally putting on weight.
I've read a couple of old threads with tips for expressing more milk, and some people have recommended expressing while feeding.
The problem is I can't work out the logistics of this. I sort of managed to do it yesterday with dd in a 'rugby hold' on my right side, and expressing from the left. I have a manual pump and need two hands to express (one to hold the pump to my boob and the other to pump) and it felt really awkward - I had wedged her in between the chair arm and a cushion so she didn't fall but it still felt quite precarious and uncomfortable.
However, for the 30 seconds I was able to do this the milk was squirting out and I can normally only manage a dribble. So I'd like to persevere if possible.
How do other people manage to do this? Is it only possible with an electric pump? The electric pump in the hospital used to stay attached to my boob meaning I was hands free, but the manual one doesn't seem to create as much suction, I have to squish it really hard against my boob to create a seal.
If only I had an extra hand it would be fine. Actually an extra two and I could look at MN as well
