Leaky boob night time solutions

I think I'm a fairly heavy milk producer (month old DS is stacking on the weight and I have a strong letdown) and as a result I often leak.

Lansinoh pads are ok most of the time during the day - until they get full - but at night when I move around in bed I'm at a loss! Milk always comes out above, below or to the side of the pads.

Tried wearing 3 disposable pads and two washable ones in my bra last night which worked a bit better but was really quite uncomfortable.

I'm also getting through a pack of 60 individually wrapped pads in a few weeks = loads of waste, not to mention £. Would love to find a more Eco solution but the washable pads i have don't hold much milk and move around = highly embarrassing public leakage issues.

Oh I also tried lilypadz which are good until letdown inadvertently kicks in or I get near feeding time - milksplosion.

Please fellow leaky boob sufferers, share your solutions with me!

A towel under you in bed?

I sleep with a folded towel under DS and I.

I feel your pain - I had massive oversupply on DS1 and was constantly soaking the bed, nightwear, passers-by, etc. I too went for the towel under me option until my supply calmed down a bit around the 12 week mark.

Mercifully it's not nearly so bad this time round (and DS2 is equally chubby!) but I do still leak a bit. I find the Avent night-time pads are by far the best of the disposables.

Ditto the above. Now I used bamboo washables and rarely soak through, but there has still been the odd occasion when I've had to change them during a night feed. Mind you I still can't sleep on my front!

Thanks for the suggestion but I'd just end up lying in a big wet patch all night (if I went bra free). I am currently wearing sleep bra at night and it inevitably ends up wet, cold and nasty. As its cold at the moment I'm wearing PJs and they end up wet too, grr.

I used to fold up a muslin square and tuck it into my top. I used to wear the nursing vests at night rather than a bra and it worked great...looked a bit funny though!

Urgh I used to hate being covered in cold, damp milk in the middle of the night. I took to sleeping with a muslin under each boob and a towel underneath me. But my boobs are big and droopy enough to hold something quite substantial underneath!

I will look our for the Avent pads, thanks! Good to know it might settle down at some point... I am yet to soak a passer by but give DS a good spray in the face most feeds, lucky boy.

Where are the bamboo pads from, they sound interesting.

same as moojie! try the muslin sq in the bra cup -- like a teen trying out 'big boobs'! your boobs will regulate soon x

DD is 14 weeks and I'm still leaking, will it stop or is this just how it is for me?

I use Tommee Tippee disposable pads and find them to be good.

I tried tommy tippee too but they seemed to shift in my bra... I prefer the material of them to the lansinoh ones but they are contoured and have two sticky bits so they remain in place a bit better.

I tried the folded muslin thing too but unsurprisingly ended up with a sopping wet top about 90 secs later...

Weissdorn I hate the feel of the wet pads too, have started changing them every few hours but it seems so wasteful. I think my boobs are more powerful than our shower head during let down...!

I need to be naked on a bed of straw or something.

I hate this too so at night I put a sanitary towel in my bra soaked up milk quite well wile Im sleeping and no more wettness down me or in my bed

I use bamboo washable pads and they are great - made by little lamb, you can buy them on line. Think I got mine on eBay. I got the extra large size and I find they are more discreet than the disposables - they are thinner but cover a bigger area of boob!

I also had major night leakage in the early days and nothing I tried stopped it. A ready supply of new nightwear next to the bed is the only thing I can suggest. Good news is that it is loads better now, I rarely have leakage, though still do the odd boob spray when DS inlay he's and squeezes my nipple with his hand

I used asda "little angels" ones and found them really good. And leaking stopped at 4 months for me so don't panic if you've gone past 6 weeks, it won't necessarily carry on the entire time

Get a waterproof mattress cover! I use washable breast pads (from Boots) and a night bra, and a towel to lie on.

Fabric breast pads (from somewhere like Etsy, not main stream ones, as they tend to be bigger), a muslin over the top, and a towel on the bed. It does ease off!

ooh I use little lambs bamboo pads.
I bet beg ou'd need two or three at night though.
they don't move about cos they mould to your boob.

or if you can sew you could make your own

I only found two types of disposable pads good - Avent and also Johnson and Johnson. With DD1 I leaked all the time until stopped breastfeeding at 14 months - although leaking did get less over time. With DD2 I hardly leaked at all after first few months. I also kept the box of breaspads next to the bed, and a bin next to the bed so that I could change pads in the night easily. Good luck!
