Please, tell me your stories of overcoming bottle refusal

(if it's ever happened)

DT2 completely refusing, just like his big brother did. We tried practically every bottle on the market and every online tip (hot/cold, when hungry/ not hungry, mummy away, bottle in armpit... You get the idea).

He'll have enough to quench thirst for a while from a TT cup but gets no comfort from that and won't even entertain the idea if he's particularly hungry or already upset.

24 weeks now so not long until we can try shovelling EBM with rice in there :o/

Off now to buy a stupidly expensive yoomi bottle, which obviously will be flatly refused.

What is it with my boys?! DT1 (girl) isn't remotely fussed as long as she gets fed!

I'd stop bothering! He can have an open cup or a sippy cup - there's no particular reason they have to have bottles and he's nearly six months.

Two of mine never wanted a bottle.

I tried all sorts of teats. And all sorts of bottles.

Also tried bottle poking out of bra. Was trying to make it look like bottle was boob. Did not work in the slightest! Was a desparate but comical moment!. Milk was expressed so wasn't even different from normal feed, but somehow the bottle was just not wanted.

Like ZuleikaD I'd go for an open cup. The Babycup one is good size for babies. Small open cups were a revelation. Meant my babies/toddlers were off teats and got really dextrous/great fine motor skills. Also, they drank their milk (which was a relief!!!).

I would not give up hope completely. My DS would not take a bottle until we started introducing solids. I had all but given up but randomly tried him with it one day when he was about 6.5 months and he took some warm milk with no fuss at all. We had tried periodically before then with no success. Maybe getting used to new sources of food etc meant the bottle did not seem so bad after all?! Have heard the same has happened for a few other folk too.

We do use a cup on a daily basis - more often than he gets a bottle. However although he is mastering sipping, I am not sure he would be too keen on being presented with it should he wake at night.

FWIW what worked for us was milk really quite warm and DS sitting on my lap facing outwards. Good luck - IMO it is worth persevering - I can now go out for the evening and know that if he is hungry, we will take milk from dad and go back to sleep!

Took me 3 days to get dd over it, she was 22 weeks, refused every sort of bottle. I refused to give her boob as she would take a little from the bottle at a time, maybe an ounce or so, finally on day 3 she gave in and slurped 6 ounces in very short order. However, she then refused to have anything to do with my boob, and as I was going back to work and wouldn't be able to express I decided to call it quits with bf and switched to formula.

Sorry, DD never ever wanted a bottle, and I tried then all. When I stopped breastfeeding her at 11 months she simply started refusing milk, will happily drink water from a cup BUT not milk. She is now 3 but still won't drink any milk: fine with cereals or to dunk biscuits in it, but no drinking it in any form....

My little boy took a bottle from 5-10 weeks no problem then just refused. No explanation just stopped. I tried yoomi, medula, avent and then came across a bottle in the States called Mimijumi. They've just started selling them over here now which will be great for this baby too. I'll still bf but at least OH can do a night feed or I can get out for a break. Might be worth a shot www.mimijumi.co.uk x

Perseverance. Took 3 months with dc3, offering the bottle before each feed. Wasted a lot of formula, although only made about 4oz each time. I had dc3 sat facing away from me and she only drinks it warm, tbo warmer than I thought it should be.

I have started to introduce the bottle with all of mine around 6 months and would say they have all taken more milk from a bottle than a beaker. If your child will drink enough volume from a beaker, go for that. I needed mine to have bottle as well to ensure they would have enough.

My DD did exactly what andromaca's DD did.

I came across the mimijumi bottle as well. It worked for us and our son.
