Baby in pain whilst feeding

Hi all just looking for some advice! DS2 is 3wo and EBF. He is gaining weight really well (nearly 1lb at day 10!) but we have been having problems during feeds.
He feeds well for about 10 mins, then will start wriggling, arching back, drawing knees up and eventually crying. He seems in pain. I or DH then winds him, sometimes get a burp, sometimes not. Then put him back to feed which he seems desperate for, only for him to suck for a few seconds before breaking off in pain again.

This seems to happen more late afternoon / evening / night. Last night he was screaming 9-12 and 2-5. I am exhausted. I fed DS1 for a year, but don't remember this level of crying / screaming or pain during feeding.

Is this wind? Colic? Reflux / silent reflux? Should I go to the doctor?

tinker, useful to get a med/HV opinion, but at the same time, consider over-supply. Your baby ticks the boxes - healthy; fast weight gain; spluttery, wriggly, fussy feeds, possible windiness; second or subsequent baby is also suggestive (as mothers tend to produce more breastmilk next time around).

Call one of the bf helplines and discuss.

Option to try: block nursing ie feeding from one side only within a period of 4-6 hours before switching to the next side and sticking to a block of time with this.

Needs to be tried for a couple of days before you can be sure it helps/doesn't help.

It damps down supply, so is only to be used with babies who're gaining welght fine.

(Gentle hand expressing only, if essential, on unused side during the 'blocks').

Thanks so much, seems to fit our symptoms! Will call one of the helplines or go to a group and get some advice on dealing with it Smile
