Can a tongue tie reform?

My DS had a tongue tie snipped at 5 weeks, at the time he was feeding constantly, hardly sleeping and wasn't gaining weight. I noticed a difference in his latch immediately, and the weight started to go on although still slowly - he's between the 0.4 and 2% centile lines, and people always comment on him being small for his age.

Over the last few weeks he's been waking more at night to feed, which I put down to the 4 month sleep regression (he's 19 weeks). But the last week or so, I'd noticed him slurping, sliding and making clicking noises on the nipple, which I though was a bit odd. Then this evening he was crying, and I noticed the little notch in the tip of his tongue is back Shock.

Can a tongue tie reform? I thought you could get adhesions, but surely they would be soon after surgery? I've left a message for the lactation consultant so will hopefully see her on Monday, but if it has reformed I'm not sure what to do. It was traumatic enough having it snipped the first time, and he's so much more aware now, but he really can't afford his weight gain to slow down otherwise he will start to drop off the bottom of the charts! I know I could formula feed but we've come this far with breastfeeding that I don't want to give up, I really wanted to feed until he was a year old & I go back to work.

Does anyone have experience of this?

They can but mine reformed within a couple of weeks of being snipped twice! I was advised the 3rd time if it had not come back within a couple if weeks that it couldn't.

Ok, that makes me feel better. So why is he suddenly having problems with his latch? I has been feeding like crazy (i thought it was a growth spurt) so guess he could just be messing around? It's a bit weird though, after 2 months with no problems.

I find that my DDs latch is all over the place! Depending on hunger tiredness and sometimes just lazy and resorts to how she used to feed! Very painful!

Could it be early teething? That can sometimes affect latch.

Yes, they can reattach.

Dr Kotlow advises stretching it after revision [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62pZw0LqYv8 like this (no sound on video) until the diamond heals up.

However, some mothers do the stretches religiously and still find reattachment. It seems that some babies are more prone to it than others.
