Breastfeeding and trying to conceive

My DD is nearly 8 months old and I am breastfeeding her in the morning, evening and one or two feeds in the day if she wants them.

I would like to start trying to conceive in the next couple of months and so am thinking about what to reduce the breastfeeding down to in order so my periods start and begin ovulating again.

Does anyone have any advice about what happened to them? If I cut down to just morning and evening is that likely to be ok? How long should I leave it for to see if they return? Is four weeks enough? Then if they don't return by then I'll look to reduce it further if they haven't returned.

I'd like to avoid stopping breastfeeding if I can but as my date for going back to work approaches, I may be tempted to give up just so I can conceive!!

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

For me it was reducing he night feeds that did it. Try googling kellymom fertility and to help with the night feeds askdrsears 12 alternatives.

I'm in the same boat, my dd is just over 8 months, feeding about the same and no night feeds. There have been none since about 6.5 months, but still no period. I seem to recall my period came back with DS at about 10 months, and this would have been about 8 weeks after consistently reduced day BF to morning and night as I went back to work with him at 8.5 months. I'm not sure what to do with DD - I keep hoping she'll reduce day feeds further but can't see it happening tbh, wish periods would just return with nothing else changing

Unfortunately I think it's one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions - with DS1 my periods came back at 8 months while he was feeding at least as much as your LO plus at least one night feed (I got pregnant with DS2 while I was still feeding morning and night). One thing I do remember is that it coincided with him ramping up his solids intake.

Good luck!
