Sippy cups and sterilising

At the recommendation of my HV I have recently started DD on a sippy cup for water, and we use self sterilising for FF. Do I need to sterilise a sippy cup or, if she is just having water in it is a hot soapy wash enough?

Also, with the support of my HV and GP we are starting weaning at 5 months, do I need to sterilise her bowls etc? Thank you!

no you dont need to sterilise the cup. Up to 6 months you should use cool boiled water but after that tap water is fine as a drink. You also dont need to sterilise the bowls, etc - just wash everything in hot soapy water.

What dishwasher said. Hot soapy water is fine. Stuff that formula comes in needs to be sterilised because of the nasties that can live in formula (that's why you have to heat it to 70 degrees). Tap water and normal food aren't the same risk.

If you use a babycup (it's a small open cup) there are less nooks and crannies than most other weaning cups. The babycup can be washed in warm soapy water like above poster said, could also go in dishwasher for a really good clean (esp if you've only been using it for drinking water). Steriliser safe too if you did want to go the whole hog until six months.

I have always sterilised up to six months.

Hot soapy wash should be fine for cup or put in dishwasher if you have one, even better as it's hotter
