Is he taking too little milk?

DS is 8 months. We have had a slow start to solids and for ages I was complaining that he wasn't taking enough. Now the opposite has happened! He's eating solids like there is no tomorrow and has cut right back on his milk (breastfed). He is having 3 very small feeds (about a minute or two) during the day and a proper one in the evening. He used to take about five 5-10min feeds a day before solids. Sometimes he has a good feed at night too. But I find it hard to believe that he is taking close to the 20oz that is recommended. Although I guess I will never know for sure!

So, do I just follow his lead? Or should I cut back the solids and get him to take more milk?

I know times have changed, but I agonised over this problem with my son once he was on solids which he loved. He wasnt that interested in milk apart from first in the morning and last at night once he discovered something on a spoon. My son is now 23 and a healthy hearty specimen of a man! I am now weaning my granddaughter so I am reading these threads.

There are other ways of getting milk into your child though, besides via breast or bottle. I also think the 20 oz rule is made for an average child and well Ive yet to meet one. I think I read that 1 ounce of cheese is equal to 4 ounces of milk, also you can stir milk into all sorts of food (vegetable purees, desserts etc.

You might want another opinion from someone who is more up to date, but I wouldnt back track on his solids if he is enjoying them and they are nutritionally appropriate.
