because everyone tells me that the majority of children self wean between 2 and 3 years old.... which gives me 5 weeks to go.... and no signs yet....
tell me it is just going to happen......

Well, I got pg...but you've tried that and it's a bit drastic in any case...! Grin

Do you want her to wean?

Pruni · 15/04/2006 23:08

A lodger we had from Ladakh said that the women there draw scary faces on their breasts when the kids are about 2-ish.
Would that work for you?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:10

no I don't really want to wean her, but I suppose as the third birthday approaches I start to worry that she won't wean herself ever, in which case one day I will have to do it
actually I have been really grateful for it again this week, because she has been off her food altogether

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:11

Shock Pruni
maybe I could draw scary spiders all over them

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:11

She'll wean.

Don't be daft.

You'll sob when she does.

If it's OK for you, and OK for her - keep doing it. Anyone else interferes...fuck 'em. Wink Grin

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:13

yes I know you're right hunker
I just need you all to come and tell me not to be so stupid Grin

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:15

Literally? Bit of a long way, but OK.

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:16

I'll put the kettle on Grin
and YES it is partly about that bloddy C4 programme

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:19

Sad Bloddy prog...

No doubt will get comments in a few weeks about being an extended bfeeder with DS2. Already think of people who make those comments as "wankers" though, so that helps Grin

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:20

yes I do often repeat my hunker mantra on the subject Grin

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:21

Glad to be of service with helpful profanity. I aim to please (and offend) Grin

georginarf · 15/04/2006 23:22

you know, I saw someone breastfeeding their 6 month old today and I was so jealous that I wasn't still feeding DD (16 months). I think all 'extended' (WTF is that anyway) are very lucky, for what it's worth. Wish I'd persevered with DD when she refused for 2 weeks at 10 months...

Donk · 15/04/2006 23:23

But what do you do if they don't seem to have any intention of self weaning? (DS 3.4yrs and still going strong.....and with an early menopause, and hot flushes, I am starting to find his feeding irritating at times)

Pruni · 15/04/2006 23:23

HC do you really want to stop feeding dd1?

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:23

don't get me wrong, I bloddy love it but... I suppose there is a difference in my head between feeding a two year old and a three year old.
give me a couple of weeks and i will be used to it I suppose...

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:24

no I don't pruni, not really
but I really want her to self wean at some point before adolescence Grin

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:24

You're having an "I have a three-year-old" wobble, Harpsi.Pretend she's going to be four and you'll be pleasantly surprised that she's only three on her birthday.

Pruni · 15/04/2006 23:25

THen just pretend she's still two. She'll never know. Save up her presents for when she stops feeding. Grin

Moondog · 15/04/2006 23:25

I think you can sort of help them along by not being around for extended perods if it is,quite literally, getting on your tits.
One of mine fed for 30 mths, the other for 11mths.

Gillian76 · 15/04/2006 23:26

I'm sure it is psychological. When you got your little bundle did you imagine you'd be feeding a 2 year old?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it :o

And a bit Envy!

harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:26

actually we had a big row the other day when she insisted she was going to be four...
she also pretty much offered to self wean if I bought her a horse Shock
she was a bit more subtle about it, but....

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 15/04/2006 23:28

no, I had no idea I was going to be feeding for this long.
while we still both love it you know you're right - if it ain't broke....

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 15/04/2006 23:38

Amazing isn't it? All that work to establish bfeeding, then you can't get the blighters to stop Grin
