Hi
Ds is ebf. He's now 17 weeks and seems unable to take ebm from a bottle. He sucks, but doesn't seem to shape his mouth around the teat properly so it just pours out of his mouth. I'd love to be able for DP to do some feeds especially at weekends but it's just not possible at present.
Not sure if it is relevant but DS appeared to have quite bad colic when he was littler and still fusses during the day when there are lots of interesting things to distract him like a bit of fluff. I can hear the milk hitting his stomach as he gets really gurgly and has problems straining to fart particularly at night.

Thanks for any advice!

I should add, he feeds roughly every 3-4 hours night or day.

i started at around 4 months with DS2 as i just didn't get time to express. i went back to work when he was 7 months and he got the hang of bottles from DH pretty quickly. i only had time for less than half a dozen practices with the bottle before i went back to work and i was a bit nervous as it hadn't gone that well!

so it can work, but some babies seem more reluctant than others. :)

being distracted during the day is totally normal for this age, can't link on my phone but read an article about it on the Kellymom site. i think there's also advice about getting baby to take a bottle on there too.

i think if you Google 'distractable 4 month old' you might get the article.

"Latch on, suck a moment, pull off? latch on, suck a moment, pull off. Nurse a minute, pull away to smile at mom. Nurse a minute, pull away to see who just walked in the room. Nurse a minute, pull away to listen to the TV. Nurse a moment, pull away because the dog wagged his tail".

Good article - thanks. That is so true!
