Any idea as to why my baby has started refusing evening bottle?

Hi,
My twins are 12 weeks and since about a month old we've been giving them a bottle of ebm or formula on an eve after the bath before bed. They are breast fed the rest of the time apart from when in out with them and both want feeding at same time, I'll get someone to give one of them a bottle to avoid the ful frontal exposure of tandem feeding!

Dtg used to take it really well while dtb found it difficult at first. Dtb now takes it really well.
However, over the last couple of weeks dtg has been refusing to take it. She'll sometimes take about 50ml then scream and refuse it or just scream and refuse before even taking it. I always end up breast feeding her instead. Dp gives the bottle.
It is odd because she will accept a bottle in the day time even from me. She never wants more than about 80 ml whereas before she would take 150 but she doesn't scream at all but just stops when she's had enough.

I can't understand why she won't take it in the eve when she used to take it so well. The only thing I can think of is over tiredness but pulling forward bedtime makes no diff. I don't think it's lack of hunger because shell have a good breast feed instead. Any ideas?? Tia!

Sounds like she is tired and wants the warmth and comfort of you.

Yeah not sure but think I'm just gonna abandon the bottle with her at the mo. More trouble than its worth!

My DS seemed to make the decision at 14 weeks that he was never going to take a bottle ever again. I tried everything to get him back on one bottle a day to no avail. I spent a lot of money trying every bottle available and every formula.

Quite a few children do this, they prefer the breast. Your dtg may have made this decision. Good luck if you persevere. Word of warning if you don't... You may never get her back on it.

Hi apple, thanks for sharing your experience. I am a little worried that she may never take it again if I stop but just can't face the nightly battle

Dp is convinced it's the make of bottle and is off to buy some others but I really don't think it is that!

They do reject bottles sometimes but if you are not there they can usually be persuaded to rethink, eventually.

Well it turns out dp was right!!! Xmas Shock
he bought a avent bottle today and she has just drunk 150ml without a scream and was all smiley at the end. Now asleep!!!

we had been using tommee tippee which she obviously doesn't like.

still remains to be seen while she will accept it in the day though.

We'll see if she accepts it again tomorrow!

My DS started to refuse his evening bottle at about 11/12 weeks. Now, at 13 weeks he no longer has one. Before, he'd cry until he got it - now he'll cry if I offer!!! Unfortunately he also began refusing the bottle during the day at about the same time. He will still take it if warm, and if he's absolutely starving (so I'm not there and it's more than 2 hours since the last feed), but he'll only take 30-60ml to keep himself going 'till I get back.
