Introducing bottle feeding at 6 months

Hi there, my LO is 6 months old and ebf and I am pregnant with no.2. I am considering to stop breastfeeding as I'm finding it uncomfortable and am also concerned that there isn't 'enough' of me to successfully both breastfeed and grow a baby. Where do I start with introducing formula? Do I drop one feed at a time, and if so over how many days? Also LO has never had a bottle, should I start with his sippy cup? Thanks in advance for your advice,

Congratulations on your pg Lizzy . I think the advice is to drop one feed every 2 weeks to reduce your risk of mastitis. You may want to talk to a BFC on how to move over to formula, try the National Bfing Helpline. Well done on getting to 6 months too Xmas Smile

Thanks for the advice, I will give them a call. I do feel awfully sad at stopping, but I don't feel like I can carry on Sad

Don't fell bad, feel amazing proud of ebf for 6 months. I don't know what the figures are but you are in a minority. Have you seen the nct leaflet "reasons to be proud"?

I got pg whilst bfing and didn't fancy tandem feeding long term either although I know it works perfectly well for lots of mums.

Let us know what the BFC says and how you get on Xmas Smile

I had about two months of 'overlap' (pg with DC2 and still feeding DC1 who was 8m). It can be exhausting, especially if you're feeling sick. I think it'd be worth starting with the sippy cup rather than bottles, as presumably you're on to solids now and he can sit up well.
