DD is 11 and a half months, she is still not very good with her sippy cup and i am worried about her hydration.
we tried yesterday to drop the morning feed and she only had the one feed before bedtime. she was incredibly cranky all day, just wasn't herself at all. she was the same this morning when i tried to skip it, just really wingey and unhappy until i caved in and fed her. she has been much better since the feed. i am wondering if it's too early to stop the morning one yet? what with her not getting much fluid from anywhere else other than food. i really want to stop bf-ing in the next month or so but i can't see her reacting very well to this :(
does anyone have any tips / ideas? thanks in advance.

Have you tried her with other cups like a sports bottle or a straw?

Have you tried warm cows' milk and a few different cups? I think she still does need some kind of milk, so if you want to stop bf I would try to replace it with cows' milk.

I stopped bf at a similar age for both of mine but they do still have warm milk from a sippy cup twice a day at 22months and 3.4.

Have you tried giving her an ice lolly in the day too? You could make your own if you are worried about additives.

Agree that warm cows milk worked with my dd however both of my DC had a clear break between stopping bfing completely and accepting cows milk. DS liked bottles with a juice spout instead of a teat.

sorry been mad busy over the last few days and not had time to reply! thanks for the suggestions, the ice lolly thing is a good idea :)

we think she is allergic to cows milk so once she is drinking from some kind of vessel properly we are going to try her with soya formula instead of cows milk.

yesterday though, we had a breakthrough! i bought a bottle of spring water (with a kind of open sports cap) while we were out and for some bizarre reason DD took an interest in it. so we gave her little sips from the bottle (had to hold it myself as it was one of them massive bottles) but she didn't spit it out and she actually wanted more! i was amazed. we have now bought one of those nuby bottles with a flexible straw. somewhat harder to get the water out than with an open sports type bottle but she is showing some promise. i can only hope she keeps it up!

Glad she is taking an interest in a bottle and getting some fluid. I don't think soya formula is recommended so I'd talk to your GP about your concerns before offering it Xmas Smile
