Baggy shirts with buttons up the front - and undo them from the bottom upwards. You can then keep one side in place, and lift the other side out to latch baby on. Tuck the loose flap around baby's head and hey presto- nothing to be seen. And a very good job too, in my case Grin

excellent, hadn't thought of anything like that.

Camisole/cardi combos. Yeah, I know some can look a bit granny-like, but if you get a low cut camisole, it can look quite good. May as well make the most of an impressive cleavage, I say. Lift the camisole up to feed, cardi stays down to cover any love handles etc at the back or side. (Not saying that I have love handles or anything...)

Wearing a vest underneath a top can be good as well. You can lift the top up, and move your boob over the top of the vest. I did this a lot, as I was worried that lost travellers would need to use my big stretchmarked belly as a road map.

To be honest, no-one really sees any belly, as you have a baby in the way!

moondog · 12/04/2006 18:01

Cardigan and t shirt combo worked fine for me.
You can sort of draw the cardi around you to hide flab.

moondog · 12/04/2006 18:02

One of my friends layered t shirt, but cut a vertical slit in bottom one.thus easy access but no flesh on show.

bitsamaloney · 12/04/2006 18:02

hennes had cheap vest tops and i wore a v necked jersey top over these. top one goes up from the bottom, vest pulls down to access your breast no belly on show. i've got on well with their special feeding tops from the maternity section too.

cod · 12/04/2006 18:03

no buttons
just a t shirt that you lift up and drop over babies head

LIZS · 12/04/2006 18:09

loose t shirts and then you could use a blanket or muslin to shield any flesh and keep baby form beign distracted.

Pixiefish · 12/04/2006 18:16

cardi or similar over any top did me

cod · 12/04/2006 18:17

never worse anythign special
tbnh if theyare close enough to see flesh they can see anythign

TheBlonde · 12/04/2006 18:34

long tops that way they don't ride up at the back and sides so much

PutAPeachyInYourSimnelCake · 12/04/2006 18:43

It may be a bit out of date trendy wise, but a non-crochet'd poncho over a pull-up-able t-shirt seems a very handy item to me.

I used to just chuck a baby blanket over DS3, but that was midsummer so couldn't wear anything more than a t-shirt.

whatever yuou choose, loose as you want to be comfy not all strangled around the shulders where it is pulled up; a clothes peg can help keep up loose tops (silly but works).

I agree with the vests underneath t shirts suggestions. I use the maternity ones from H&M (getting my money's worth!) They tuck into jeans etc, hold jelly belly in place and no draughts. Upper layer pulled up is much more discreet than pulling down, I've found all of mine became distracted if I tried to use a blanket to cover them.

Depends on how big you are....

I bought tons of cheap vest tops from asda/tescos then wore whtever top i fancied over it (within reason though do wear relatively tight fitting ones too) then when I want to feed, i just unhook bra and pull down vest top and pull up normal top and you are all covered up.
Or wear a little caridgan over your top

popsycalindisguise · 12/04/2006 18:58

ah should have read the whole thread first Grin

KoolKat · 12/04/2006 20:04

What you need is a big baby with a big head - covers most things !
DS was a small baby and I have big boobs, so useless for hiding bits !

KoolKat · 12/04/2006 20:05

T-shirt with a baggy kaftan top - great !

harpsichordcarrier · 12/04/2006 20:16

camisole/cardi or camisole/shirt for the summer - I wear it with one or two buttons done up just under the breasts

Cristina7 · 12/04/2006 20:25

Shawl or blanket. Don't use a rainbow coloured one, though. I did today and it wasn't discreet.

leonsmum · 12/04/2006 21:12

There are some great slings out there which, with a bit of practice, you can feed your baby in while wearing. They have 'tailsw' of fabric that you can use to obscure the view if you feel self-concious. Look for 'freedom slings' on ebay if you're interested.

I find that anything baggy is enough as the baby's head covers most things. It's only when my DS get older and started latching himself on and off whislt grinning at people that I found it harder to keep things covered, but by then I wasn't so bothered and would just choose somewhere a touch more discreet if in public!

maiseysmum · 12/04/2006 21:46

Hello
I use a muslin cloth, wrap one corner around your bra strap a couple of times and works perfectly to drape over baby and your bits, which in my case are quite unsightly!!!

suzi2 · 12/04/2006 22:20

wear a t-shirt and a cardi. whip the tshirt up and the cardi and ytour baby will hide your belly. if you have big boobs avoid things that you button down the way as you look really naked when feeding in public!

TicTacsMum · 17/04/2006 11:47

Jojo Maman Bebe have nursing vests whick have drop cups. I'm reasonably small chested so this seems to provide enough support and has the added bonus of covering my unsightly stomach! They cost abou 16 quid though and I saw similar ones in H&M at the weekend for about 8.

I've also got a couple of nursing tops from H&M. They're a bit hard to explain but you just need to pull the crossover bit to the side (there's a panel across your chest too so you're not exposed on the chest)and hey presto!!
