Anyone had tongue tie corrected at 17 wks?

Posted yesterday about green poop and some other issues the last week or so. Went to see a BFC today and she has diagnosed 50% tongue tie. We've never had pain feeding and to date her weight gain has been good but she does have other symptoms so I'm not overly surprised after reading stuff on here.

So my question is anyone has this done at 17 wks? I'm worried what impact it will have with her being older (is there a downside to having it done?) and her learning a new latch.

TIA

Had it done at 7 months. posterior. Search my nickame as have to dash. Been only positive but 20% of time goes back to bad (chewing) habits but this could be the lip tie dd also has. I would do it. gp said child abuse. It was fine and dd happy in 5 mins (better than injections) and no general anaes. ga would be downside but usually needed if nhs. other issues = started sucking for comfort. I was really happy about this until so much night for months enjoying new feeding joy and not feeding much in day. 10 months and almost have htis under control.

ds' tongue tie was done at about 17 weeks. he had an 80% tie.

he was fine, barely blinked when it was done (didn't like being wrapped up and hands held away from mouth, but the actual snip was fine).

it was about 3 weeks ago now, and he has been fine since. didn't notice much difference for the first 10 days or so, but now a lot more settled, less windy, feeding better (was feeding ok before, but really doing well now).

main difference has been better sleep (thank god!) as he is so much more comfortabl all round, I guess.

Thanks ladies :). She's started feeding for a ridiculously short amount of time, shallow latch meaning wind, green poop, frequent wakings at night, posseting etc. She never did any of this as a newborn so naively thought we'd escaped it but I guess as they get older things can become more pronounced.

Are there any downsides medically? whenwill why would you need a general anaesthetic - because it's now painful as they get older!

silver did you get it done privately?

they say ga cos it is painful, yes. It always is but perhaps they think a bigger reaction when older means more pain. Gp also said it could traumatise dd orally if she was aware but ga risks too great for most nhs trusts. Having been through it all I think trauma idea is rubbish. Like I said injections had far worse a reaction. We got dd used to being swaddled when coming our of bath. singing 'wrap you up wrap you up' eye contact, smile etc. before we did it. And I had to hold her head upsidedown-ways so you could practise that

No, was on the nhs - referred from hv, and then appt about 2 weeks later.

There was never any suggestion of a ga, or any pain killers at all. Just swaddling, then snip and instant feed afterwards.

Ds was the same - small feeds, lots of wind, frequent waking at night. It was common for him to wake every hour all night long.

I was given a leaflet beforehand which stated that babies rarely cry when having it done, that it had been known for some to sleep through it etc which I thought was a load of bull, but having seen it now, it really does seem to be true. Ds barely flinched. He didn't like being swaddled up, but more due to him not being able to shove his fist in his mouth, and he didn't like having someone put their fingers in his mouth and hold his tongue, but the actual snip really was fine. It bled for about 10 seconds afterwards (gauze was pressed down on the cut) then he was handed to me to feed, which he did happily and 20 minutes later we went home.

Had it done at 8, 12 and 14 weeks without GA so no quite 17 but she had no problem with it / had it done as it kept healing back again.
