Grazed/chewed (ouch!) nipple

DD (15 months) is teething and has grazed my left nipple - she always struggles for a few days when new teeth come in. And then, last night, she decided to chew on it too. The skin isn't broken but it's very sore.

At this stage in feeding, can I just avoid feeding from that side for 24/48 hours until it is less painful? (She feeds morning, nap time & bedtime plus numerous short comfort feeds at night).

We are in the slow (and seemingly futile) process of attempting to stop feeding but I'm not sure stopping cold turkey would be the best for anyone even if it did let my poor chewed nipple heal!

Ouch, that happened to me too, you have my sympathies.

At this stage of feeding it will be fine to stop feeding from that side for a day or two, although you may like to gently express from that side if you are feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Good to know - although it's kind of a moot point now as she's just gone and done pretty much the same on the other side so I just have to feed through the pain Hmm

For a child who is being resistant to the idea of giving up feeding, she is certainly going the wrong way about changing my mind Wink
