herbal tea and breastfeeding?

Is herbal tea safe to drink when breastfeeding? My mum bought me some "nursing tea" which contains fennel, aniseed, caraway and fenugreek. I've heard fennel helps relieve baby's wind, but I googled fenugreek and it says it increases milk supply but I don't have a problem with supply!

There are some herbs associated with reducing supply (sage, peppermint and oregano are the most commonly mentioned) and there are some associated with increasing supply, like fenugreek. They have to be in pretty significant amounts to affect things.

Breastfeeding Answers Made Simple says:
"A mother who drinks a few cups of herbal tea each day is unlikely to have a problem. But reactions are more likely if she drinks a quart (0.946 litres) or more of tea each day, or if the tea is potent or contains active ingredients."

If your baby is suffering from wind then there are loads more things that will help than you drinking fennel tea. Are you concerned about wind? How old is your baby?

She's 6 weeks old. One midwife suggested fennel tea, so thought I'd give it a try. We keep her upright as much as possible, particularly after feeds.
