Tried to buy some nursing bra's today...

I wanted to buy myself some nice nursing bra's, with dd I just had the plain mothercare two in a pack which are not the most attractive. This time I plan to breastfeed longer so I want to buy myself some sexier ones :)

Went to Mothercare today and asked a girl with a "Ask me" badge on to measure me. She held the measuring tape so lightly and I did not feel like she knew what she was doing. Surely her badge would mean that she has had some kind of training in measuring boobs so I went with what she said.

With dd my feeding bra's were a size 38b, this girl reckons I am a 34d. So I tried a few bras on and one I liked was too tight so she suggested I try a 34dd.

I am very flat chested, both bra's felt quite tight around my ribs but she said they will feel a lot looser after giving birth. I cant remember first time if that happened. The cups were not that small, I reckon they come up small. I cant believe my boobs will be a d cup :) :) :)

Too good to be true, anyway she said I can change them if they dont fit when the milk comes in.

Not sure what to do, If I should go somewhere else to get measured again.

Can my boobs really measure so different with this pregnancy? If I weighed heavier this time before conceiving then it would make sense but I was actually slimmer???

Also can anyone suggest nice places to buy your bra's?

Thank you

Exactly the same happened to me at Mothercare in Aberdeen. After posting on here I discovered that the girl hadn't measured me properly - you are supposed to add 4 inches on to you actual measurement or some bizarre thing like that. She measured my at 32 DD/E but was then correctly measured at 34C!

if u know the size u need there are some nice lacy ones in h&m which i will be buying when i get some money.
i think they are choc brown- i love this colour. the front drops down and your boob is left inside another cup with a slit down the front that you nip pokes thru so u arent too exposed.
they are about 8quid each.
when i was measured at mothercare by an experienced italian woman i ended up with 2 huge bras that were so big they constantly rode up my back and i never grew into them they were that big!!
i could fit my head in a cup!

Try John Lewis or M&S maybe

Never found any nice nursing bras myself but Debenhams should stock the Elle MacP ones

TicTacsMum · 09/04/2006 18:49

Sorry, meant to add - I would definitely go somewhere else to be measured, or even measure yourself. Just look in the back of a catalogue - Blooming Marvellous, Next etc (or find it online) for instructions.

Alot of people on here raved about the Elle MacPherson Bra when i posted.

I know it's probably not the most supportive bra in the world but I tend to wear my JoJoMaman Bebe nursing vests quite alot. They are tightish vests with drop cups and it means you can wear normal tops as the vest bit covers your stomach. I find they're a bit on the small side though. I needed to buy a Large as I nearly pulled a muscle trying to get into the medium one!!

Went to John Lewis in Aberdeen too after the bad advice in Mothercare. They were excellent. In fact, one of the girls in my antenatal class went there about 5 times during her pregnancy and is now on fist name terms with the bra measurer!!

Waswondering - yes, i'm in Aberdeen - you?

John Lewis have good fitters ime. Bought my nursing bras there and the fitted fine.

GarfieldsGirl · 09/04/2006 20:18

Lovecloud - I agree with others try M&S or Debenhams for fitting.

As for being very different sizes with different LO's, I was too, even though I was the same size pre-preg with them both.

The "Which" report couldn't reccommend any of JL, Mothercare, M&S for fitting services. I've found Rigby & Peller fabulous for both maternity and nursing bras.

rarrie · 09/04/2006 22:15

If you have boobs big enough (size D cup and above) then I couldn't recommned Bravissimo highly enough (but order an appointment!). Shockingly, I grew to a 32L last time, but they were still able to provde bras that gave me decent support. Even my hubby said my boobs were too big! Blush

Measure yourself from 36 weeks of preg - check out the size charts online. I got mine from blooming mavellous & jojomamanbebe.

jayjaybaby · 09/04/2006 22:36

try fig leaves they are good but get measured some where like john lewis or bravissimo they will help anyone big boobed or not
iwas a 34hh before igot pg im 21wks now and in a 36l so god knows where i'll be at 36 weeks

I ended up a 48 C/D so I had to go to Evans, not specific feeding bras but good secure and comfortable, sorry sexy wasn't even on my listGrin. I would get a couple of boring practicle nes for now and once your boobs settle then get nicer ones.

They don't really have to be specifically for feeding unless you really want easier opening. I just pulled it up.

BTW my rib cgae did chang but my DS was 11lb7oz.
