Infant gavison side effects

My 19 week old dd has just been prescribed infant gaviscon for reflux. i used it for a couple of days, but now she seems really constipated (its nearly 48 hours since she produced anytihng substantial and the little bit hse did do was vvvv thick). does anyone know if a side effect of the gaviscon is constipation?

We stoped using it because the constipation was far worse than the reflux effects. Obviously that meant keeping him in a sitted possition for about an hour after each feed...
Sad

But there are no warnings on the packet about it which i thought strange. glad someone else has experienced the same...thanks for that.

I'm not the only one Hattiecat, the link infant gaviscon-constipation surfaces in mumsnet often. We were told to give him a smaller dose but it continued to be as painful, he cried so much that we decided to stop it, things got better little by little, especially after the introduction of solids.

yes, i think i'd rather put up with the constant smell of vomit and having to keep changing soggy baby clothes than this - am becoming paranoid at inspecting her bottom every 2 minutes in the hope that she's done something!

Are you keeping her sitting after her feeds? try to reduce the amount of gavison a bit, HV suggested a hungry baby formula because is thicker and would stay down more easily, but not a good idea if you are still bf/expressing.

Try to keep her sitting in her car seat for a good half an hour after a feed, or try to feed her less quantity more often rather than big long feeds. If you are still breastfeeding it would be worth it to express the milk that way you can insure she is also getting hind milk.

Hi Hattiecat
We experienced it, but not not so bad as to stop. He never really had any pain with it.

Will DD take water at all?
Actually we always gae the gaviscon in water as per the breastfeeding instructions, and found it better too.

For me the trade off was certainly worth it.
