Why am I always so thirsty?

I've been breastfeeding my daughter for 6 months now and I'm always thirsty. I know obviously that my body needs more fluid than usual because of my breastfeeding but every time she latches on I feel like i'm going to faint from thirst. Once I've had a drink of water I'm fine again.
Someone tell me I'm normal!!!! Blush

yep- that used to happen to me too! i had to have a pint of water next to me while i was i was feeding! it's strange the way your body makes sure it has what is needs isn't it?

Thank god for that I've been feeling really dramatic about it! I drive my husband mad during the night because he ends up having to keep topping up my glass! Did it last for the whole time you were feeding?

Same for me too. Why don't you just take a bottle of water up with you?

alexsmum · 08/04/2006 13:08

i don't remember i'm sorry.i stopped 12 months ago and it seems like another world now.

I ws the same - always needing water. Its wearung off now DS is down to just 2 feeds a day

rosebea · 12/04/2006 19:34

I did used to but I drank it in one so it had to be refilled anyway. She's had more solids this week and so she's needed less which means I've needed less water although I admit I feel a little redundant!

drink more water generally and you'll find it takes the edge off the dire thirst. I find that if I drink loads during the day, i don't feel like i was eating the sahara during the night.

I try to make sure I drink enough during the day, It's a nightmare! I've got a breastfeeding 6 month old (hard enough in itself) and a super intellegent 2 year old who needs constant stimulation. Wouldn't change it for the world but it's difficult to think of myself, I should just see about getting myself hooked up to an IV!!!!

I need to drink lots too :) about 4 litres a day! Expressing with a 6 month old and a super intelligent DS too (and no TV!) so I know how knackered you are Grin

rosebea · 12/04/2006 20:06

No Tv? You're very brave! I allow half an hours TV during afternoon quiet time and that's it. Gives me a little "Sane" time!

Yes I am insane lol, the morning express is the best, DS just wants to play because he's full of beans and DD wants feeding the whole time... yay! Lol

rosebea · 12/04/2006 20:18

I've got 2 DD's the eldest wakes up starving every day and acts as if I'm cruel if she hasn't eaten by 7:30 and the mini one would eat all day if I let her. She wont touch a dummy but seems to think my breast is an more than adaquate alternative. If you don't mind me asking do you find it easier to express rather than feed directly? I've never tried expressing

She couldn't feed, DS couldn't either!

rosebea · 12/04/2006 20:23

My eldest couldn't, she tried but was never happy, it made us both upset everytime feed time came around. It's always best to do what makes the baby happy in that respect. Sorry to be noseyBlush
