DS, 21 weeks, was admitted last weekend with dehydration following d&v. Only stayed in for the day and rehydrated with diarolyte. Sickness continued all week and, after seeing GP yesterday, we were sent to paediatrics via A&E.

His vomiting is much better and he's hydrated and happy. They're going to investigate the poor weight gain/ failure to thrive (91st to 0.2nd centile). In the first instance, I've been asked to express so they can see the volume he's getting. The amount expressed looks pitiful and he won't drink it anyway!

I had three hours sleep. But that's quite normal! He's charming everyone with his cuteness.

Thanks for your thoughts. Georgina, we can't get him to suck from anything (other than the breast) and that was thought not enough for the moment. So NG appeared to be the only way to top up. We are giving formula if I can't express enough and are also trying solids.

Piprabbit - yes, very determined! I hope it bodes well for the future... Smile

Viva - it feels like everyone in the world has tried!

Sorry for not reading thread properly.

How's your DS tonight? Have been lurking Blush
Hope he's better

belindarose · 04/12/2012 06:30

Thanks for your interest, AnnaLiza. We're staying in until another weigh in on Thursday. He showed more interest in breastfeeding yesterday and during the night, so I'm not so worried about that now. He's having high calorie formula and fortified EBM through the tube three hourly and bf on demand.

I'm giving him a cup to try to get him off the tube. At the last attempt yesterday evening he drank about 30ml of infatrini, so he's getting there.
Also starting high calorie weaning today.

He is really cheerful most if the time but not managing to sleep in the day, so exhausted by evening.

And now we both have a cough!

Thanks for giving us an update belinda, so glad that you and your DS seem to be making progress. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday and hoping you are home soon.

AnnaLiza · 04/12/2012 20:20

Great stuff! I hope he gets better and better. I've had a young baby in hospital too and remember with dread how stressful it was! Lots of hugs

aamia · 04/12/2012 22:40

Hope things continue to improve Smile

Great news! Is it all ok now? I'm so pleased for you Smile

piprabbit · 06/12/2012 16:26

Thanks Wine Xmas Grin Wine Thanks

belindarose · 06/12/2012 16:51

Thanks. I'm especially in need of the Wine!

He put on 6oz in the 6 days we were there, which included being sick quite a lot at the beginning. Obviously, a lot of those calories had gone in via the NG tube.

But he's learning to drink from a Tommee tippee free flow cup and can manage his high calorie formula through that. And he's eating with a spoon and can manage banana as finger food. He's breastfeeding bettet again - I think. So we've been allowed home to continue growing with dietician advice and a review in 10 days.

He does look a lot more solid. He's also been sleeping better. I think I've lost half a stone for each oz he's gained though!

Sounds like you are both doing fabulously.

Enjoy the banana stained laundry - I've never worked out how something so pale can make such a revolting mess.

narmada · 06/12/2012 22:52

Is the ongoing vomiting to do with the bug do you think?

I was just wondering whether anyone has suggested the possibility of a milk allergy or reflux.

narmada · 06/12/2012 22:54

Oh duh. sorry - I read your pp properly and see you are home and all is going well :) :)

aamia · 07/12/2012 10:30

Well done!

raininginbaltimore · 07/12/2012 10:37

Oh belinda, I missed this. Dd was in hospital at 10 weeks And fed through NG. Was horrid. We are still having tests etc and she is still losing weight.

So glad you are home x

belindarose · 08/12/2012 03:13

Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear about your dd raining. How old is she now?

Well, it seems that DS has become used to having a full tummy all night (3 hourly tube feeds). He's fed every hour since going to bed.

Sad I have a very long drive tomorrow, so need some sleep!

Weaning into solids, by the way, is going remarkably well.

She's 18 weeks. She loves weaning too!

Hope you manage to get some rest

smk84 · 08/12/2012 09:29

Hi belinda, really glad to hear weaning is going well and that you are home. I hope you have been able to get a bit more sleep.
