Switching to Cow's milk...why?

My little man has just turned one and everything I read says I CAN change his milk to cow's milk rather than formula.

I don't understand why I would switch. We don't drink full fat milk so we'd have to buy something different for him, and pricewise it's not that different.

Have I missed something fundamental?

Given that you get about 5.8 litres of formula out of a 900g tub (about £9.50 depending on brand) and the same quantity of cows milk is £3.30 or thereabouts, I'd say that pricewise it's very different!

There is a massive difference in price and given that toddlers are supposed to drink a decent quantity of milk still, the amount that you would be buying would justify buying something different for him. Also formula requires all that preparing and sterilising and so on, whereas with pasteurized whole milk all you do is take the lid off the bottle and pour into a glass, much much easier. Formula has a much sweeter taste too which is something you might want to get him un-used to perhaps. Of course, you can get that toddler formula but I think I would just switch to whole milk.

The NHS recommendation is 300ml of full fat cows milk per day from 12 to24 months. They don't recommend formula after that time and as oaths have said, there is a big cost difference, plus you can use the cows milk in cooking too Smile

Others not oaths, blardy ipad.

Yes, mostly the cost. If you are breastfeeding there is really no reason to change unless you want to stop. But for formula the cost difference can be massive.

Sorry galaxy should have said, there is no need to give formula or cows milk if you are bfing (sorry lurkers)
