Just got back from a trip to children's A&E at 3am after 9 week old vomited a small amout of fresh blood after a feed. He was absolutely fine , alert and smiling. Doctor thought the blood was probably from me, which he says is quite common. But my breasts feel ok I have not had any pain or soreness, although DS was hungry so it was quite a vigorous feed- almost uncomfortable.

Has anyone experienced this, and did you develop any problems, or was it just a one off?

And does anyone know why it happens? Could it just be because hungry baby was sucking so hard?

if you don't have sore/cracked nipples he could have caused a thin blood vessels to break with feeding frenzy - bit like a nosebleed

if he feeds like mad I'd "pause" at next b feeding after a few minutes to see if there's any blood in his mouth - wrap a tissue round your finger and wipe inside of mouth

if he was sick, the blood could have come from him - force of retching could have caused it (again same thing as a nosebleed)

only a blood test could tell whose blood it is, so if he's ok and it doesn't happen again I wouldn't worry.
if he is happy, he's probably ok.
