Can I pump enough to give one bottle a day?

DS was born 7 weeks early and spent a couple of weeks in SCBU. While he was being tube fed I pumped regularly to ensure he had my milk. I had a very good supply and ended up freezing loads of milk.

In the last few weeks since he's been home I've been breast feeding and using my stock of frozen milk to allow DH to give him one bottle a day with no additional pumping. My frozen stock is running out so I need to get pumping again to continue the bottle a day.

So my questions are:

  • how often should I be pumping
  • what time of day is best
  • will I be able to produce enough for a full bottle feed when I'm breast feeding on demand

And advice gratefully received!

I'm not massively knowledgeable as i don't pump loads, but for me I find first thing in the morning the best time, off the boob I just fed from. I can usually get 3oz that way which is fine for me as i'm just freezing a little stash. I think a full feed is 3-5oz on average. If you're skipping a night feed to give a bottle, you might want to pump then, not least for comfort.

BF works on supply/demand so you will have enough, plus surplus if you want to.

GL :)

Just to say others might pump lots more (volume) as some get more expressing. I just use a hand pump as well.
