The title says it all really. Sorry if this has been done before but I did a search and couldnt find anything.

If you use bottled water to make up feeds, maybe because you are travelling or on holiday, do you still have to boil it.

I thought I also read something about certain brands been better than others. I know Evian is supposed to be OK for babies, but once again, do you boil it?
(I remember when I own kids were little and we were camping a German mum thought it was odd that I gave my little un water from the kettle (prev. boiled) rather than Evian).

No personal experience Peaches, but I noticed on holiday that my brother made up bottles of formula from bottled water without boiling it first for his 8 month old. Mind you, he didnt sterilise the teats either (He was using "drop ins" ie disposable bottle inners) - it didnt seem to cause any problems for my niece.

Someone must know?

I would. Bottled doesn't mean sterile.

yep, always boiled the bottle water while on hol.

Depends on the age of who you are giving it to, for an older baby who is having tap water as a drink, why would you boil the bottled water.

I used Evian in Minorca didn't boil it, baby was 6 months and perfectly fine - I think it depends on the mineral content of the water, seem to remember an earlier thread on this subject.

You need to make sure the soduim content isn't high too. It can be in some bottled waters.

In France, mum's are apparently advised by the paedritician to use Evian for babies (for newborn babies too) and they don't have to boil the water. My mother only used Evian in our bottle when we were babies and that was 35 years ago!!!

Hi

I've just read a thread ( sorry I don't know how to make a link to it) where they said not to boil mineral water as boiling alters the mineral and sodium content.

The thread is called "bottles in fridge" and the bit I'm talking about is the most recent reply.

Babycentre reckons you can use certain bottled water but that it should be boiled. See

I thought they didnt boil it in Europe (Evian that is). We are hoping to get away and I like to have all the facts, but the way things are going it looks like we will be staying in the UK this year.

It would be useful when you were travelling if you could just buy a bottle of Evian to make up for formula though, I know they make cartons but for a longer trip there is the weight/cost element.

Peaches, I have just spoken to my sis in France and she has used Evian since her DS was 2 months old. She said that it is the water everybody she knows use it to make the Formula (and NO need to boil it!). We are off to France in June and we will be using Evian for our 8 months old DD like everybody else other thereWink

Thats excellent, thank you so much sun and moon. Can you store made up feeds if you use Evian just as you would with boiled water? I am one of those people who like to make a whole days bottles up and wang them in the fridge.

It looks like we will prbably be going to spain and hope to get an apartment.
