Very successful toddler weaning :-)

I weaned my three year old 3 weeks ago

After much stressing and worrying (me) she has stopped with barely a backwards glance

It has been so stress free - it suggests to me that DD was more than ready to stop

Also I was very ready

We went cold turkey but the distraction of her birthday and starting Pre school worked a treat

She did ask but was easily placated/distracted

There were a few tears but compared to what I was expecting

She hasn't even asked for the past week

Just wanted to share

For how long have you felt ready to stop? I thought I was getting used to the idea but now I feel sad about weaning. (i think one boob has dried up!) DS is 17 months.

I've probably been ready for around a year!

But she loved it so much

I was sadder than I thought

I sat sobbing over her head during her last feed

Glad it has gone well for you. Sounds like she was ready.

I have experienced trying to wean a 3yo before he was ready, and believe me, it's totally different, so you can rest assured that she really was ready for it!

brill, I had a similar experience with my 2.3 year old. It was all pretty painless (although, like you, I had a sobby afternoon). DD didn't give a monkey's and even though she's my last and I'll never breastfeed again that's just fine with me!

She obviously just needed a little nudge

DD was also my last so I wonder if that is why I carried on for a while longer than I really wanted to
